This is the fortieth year for the annual Art Ball, and the theme is "Super Ball XL, Forty years of having a ball!" The evening will include Utah Baroque Ensemble Concert Saturday Utah Baroque Ensemble's annual Easter concert will be presented on Saturday, Apr. 29, at 7 p.m., in the Tahitian Noni Auditorium, located 333 W. The choir sings music from the Baroque era, as their name implies but they also sing music from many different differ-ent eras. The choir will also present works by Craig Courtney, Frank Ticheli, and a wide variety of folk songs from America, the British Isles and Hungary. Admission to the concert is free. American Fork Symphony presents "Salute to Youth" Seven young Utah County musicians will be featured during the American Fork Symphony's upcoming "Salute to Youth" concert on Monday, Apr. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the American Fork High School auditorium, 510 N. 600 East, American Fork. This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating grad-uating senior at American Fork High School who excels in the visual arts. Violinist Rebekah Willey, 11, will perform the first movement of W.A. Mozart's Violin Concerto in A Major. Willey began studying violin at 12 months with her mother and has studied with Deborah Moench since age 3. She was a soloist in the Utah Symphony's Sympho-ny's 2004 Salute to Youth concert con-cert and has performed with five other orchestras. She was selected Grand Prize Winner in both the Utah Viola Festival in 2003 and Nachtmusik's Young Artist Festival in 2005. 1 Pianist Verina Chen, 12, will play the first movement of W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto Concer-to in A Major. Chen began piano pi-ano lessons with Dr. Irene Peery Fox three years ago. She won first prize at the Utah State Piano Competition in August 2005 and earned a perfect score in the Encore Concerto Competition. After studying piano for just three months, Chen placed second at the 2002 Encore Piano Com petition. She also studies viola and has been the viola section leader in the Timpanogos Prep Orchestra for two years. Violinist Caitlin MacKay, 15, will play the first movement move-ment of Dmitri Kabalevsky's Violin Concerto in C Major. MacKay began studying violin vio-lin at age 4 and currentfy studies stud-ies with Lois Stout. She has always al-ways received top scores in solo competitions and is a member of the Timpview High School Philharmonic Orchestra. Or-chestra. She is a competitive swimmer and is in the water training when she is not practicing prac-ticing the violin. Violinist Erica Shirts, 17, will perform the first movement move-ment of Edward Lalo's Sym- Ehonie Espagnole. Shirts has een playing violin since age 5 and currently studies with Gerald Elias. She is concert mistress of the Timpview High School Orchestra and Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra. Or-chestra. She was selected as concert mistress of the All-State All-State Orchestra and placed third in junior strings at the Utah State Fair in 2005. Members of the Maple Mountain Quilt ers will also showcase their handmade items at the event. The public may exhibit finished items or items that are in progress. He has performed as a soloist with the Utah Symphony, the Pleasant Grove Orchestra, the Utah Valley Symphony and Nachtmusik. French horn player Matthew L. Castillo, 17, will perform the third movement of Richard Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1. Castillo began studying the horn at age 12 and currently studies with Stephen Kostyniak. He has performed as a soloist twice with the Utah Valley Symphony Sympho-ny and won first place in the Utah State Fair Music Competition Compe-tition in 2003. Most recently, he was chosen as an Emerson Scholar and received the opportunity op-portunity to study at the Interlochen Inter-lochen Arts Camp in Michigan Michi-gan with a full-ride scholarship. scholar-ship.
