Show 12 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, February 24, 2005 Central Bank names new chairman At Central Bank's annual stockholder and board of director's meeting February 9, Matt C. Parkard was named Chairman of the Board of Directors for Central Bancorporation, the holding company that owns Central Bank. Parkard replaces J. Brent Packard who retired as Chairman of the Board having served in that position since 2001. Matt Packard has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Central Bank for the past four years. He began his banking career as an officer trainee in 1976; he was named Senior Vice President in 1984 and Executive Vice President in 1999. Matt graduated from Brigham Young University in business. He is also a graduate of the National Installment Lending School, the National Commercial Lending School and the Pacific Coast Banking School. He has served as the Utah Chairman for the American Institute of Banking, on the Board of Directors of the Utah Banker's Association and on the board of the Western Independent Bankers as well as the Springville City Council. J. Brent Packard is well known in Utah banking circles cir-cles having received the "Distinguished Banker Award" at the annual Utah Banker's Convention in 2003. He started his banking bank-ing career as an officer trainee in 1976. In 1984 he was named a Central Bank Senior Vice President, in 1999 Executive Vice President and President and CEO of Central Bank in 2001. He will remain a member of the Central Bank Board of Directors. Central Bank is a $400 million in assets community bank with nine offices in Utah County. Matt Packard is the fifth generation of the Packard family to lead the bank which was founded as Springville Banking Company in 1891 and merged with the State Bank of Provo in 1966 to become Central Bank. Beardall Merlene Taylor Beardall, 79, of Springville, Utah passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 from complications of heart failure. She was born October 24, 1925 in Springville to Willie James and Hannah Wood Taylor. She married Scott LeRoy Beardall May 24, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Merlene was a woman with a great capacity to love all that she came in contact with. She received many trophies and awards for her gardening (roses were her specialty), jams, jellies and crocheting. Merlene was an excellent seamstress and sewed her children clothes, and made costumes for her daughter and grandchildren for dance classes. She was a camp leader for Utah Daughters of the Pioneers for many years. She also volunteered at the DUP Museum in Springville for many years. She worked in the church family history center as a genealogy consultant con-sultant and was an avid genealogist for over 50 years. Merlene wrote her own biography and life history his-tory to which she made books for all the family. For many years she was the president of the Taylor Family Reunion and with For over 25 years, the heart specialists at Central Utah Clinic have provided tender care along with the latest advancements in cardiac care. Beardall her sisters and brother organized orga-nized a family reunion for 300 Taylor descendants since the year 1956. She worked in the church as a primary teacher, primary president and stake primary presidency for 35 years. Merlene worked as manager for the BYU Food Services for 20 years. Surviving are Merlene's three children: David L'. (Susan) Beardall of Benjamin, UT; Carolyn (Tom) Buck of Altoona, PA; and Kent S. (Tammy) Beardall of Mink Creek, ID; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers broth-ers and sisters: Vern Taylor, Ephraim, UT; Holla Jane Dowhaniuk, Springville, UT; Electa Clark, Springville, UT; and Duane (Loretta) Taylor, Payson, UT. Preceding her in death were her parents, Willie and Hannah Taylor, her hus: band, Scott LeRoy Beardall, sisters: Bessie Isabel!, Maryan Cain, Edith Baum, and Hannah Taylor; and brothers: Luther Brake, Mark Taylor, Ralph Taylor and Clarence Taylor. ; Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek West Stake Center, 555 S. 600 East in Springville'. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
