Show i Page Eight - The Springville Herald - March 1, 1!H2 Eagle recognition banquet slated March 4 in Provo The 26th Annual Eagle Recognition Banquet, honoring Scouts of the Utah National Parks Council, who have achieved the rank of Eagle during 1981, will be held at the Wilkinson Center on the BYU campus on March 4, 1982 at 6:45 p.m. An important feature of the Eagle Recognition Banquet is that each scout is sponsored by and is the guest of a business man, farmer, rancher or some one from professions or fields of endeavor in which he may have an interest later in life. This association of mature, experienced men with the Scouts is a valuable experience for the boys. If any Scout who received his Eagle during 1981 has not been contacted con-tacted by his sponsor yet, he should telepohone the Scout Council office immediately. A similar recognition banquet is sponsored each year by the Bald Eagle Chapter of the Kerry D. Seamons earns Eagle Kerry D. Seamons, 14, son of Max W. and Ruth Seamons of Mapleton, Kerry Seamons Bryan Orme earns Eagle Bryan Don Orme received his Eagle Scout badge at the Springville Fifth Ward Scout Banquet on Feb. 16. He is the son of Don H. and Fern Orme. Bryan is a junior at Springville High School where his favorite subjects sub-jects are chemistry and marketing. His hobbies include horseback riding and stamp collecting. Currently serving as senior patrol leader for the Blazer Scouts and second assistant in the priests quorum, Bryan lias also been president of his deacons and teachers quorums. March li. from 5:15 (o 6 p.m at the Mapleton Slake Center Cultural Hall. The classes will be held three limes per week: Monday and Wednesday, Iron) .": 15 to li p.m. and Saturday, from K: 15 to 9 a id The classes are free and arc intended for all agos: nien. women, and children regardless of physical condition. The purpose of the class is to improve stamina and flexibility, to aid weight loss and to improve the general fitness of I lie larlicipants. Exercises will be done to lively music but it is emphasized that it is not a dance class. Those attending should come on lime ami bring a mat or pad for the floor exercises. Tennis shoes and jogging clothes are appropriate attire. The classes will be taught by George and Mi mi Murdock. George is a veteran of five marathons and a long- National Eagle Scout Association in Provo for many of the Scouts of the council who have received the Eagle rank during the previous year. A total of 554 scouts are included in this area. An additional 227 will be honored at three additional ad-ditional banquets for districts who are so distant from the council headquarters that it is inconvenient for them to travel so far. The Utah National Parks Scout Council is one of the largest in the United States in terms of area covered. It extends from Utah County south into northern Arizona, east to the Colorado border and west into Eastern Nevada. The number of Scouts receiving the Eagle rank in the council in 1981 exceeded the number in 1980 by over two hundred. From the number receiving this rank thus far in 1982, this year will exceed 1981. was presented his Eagle Scout award, March 2 at the Mapleton Second Ward. He attends ninth grade at the Springville Jr. High. Working with computers, swimming, camping and snowmobiling are a few of his favorite things to do. Last August he enjoyed a backpacking campout with the scouts in the Uintas hiking, fishing and earning a lot of merit badges for his Eagle award. The speaker who will cover this subject, Dr. Everett K. Gibson, is especially capable of doing so. He is the Senior Space Scientist at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He assisted in the training of the astronauts for the Lunar Program. He is the test director of the Lunar Recovery Lab and is the principal investigator in-vestigator for the Study of Returned Moon Rocks and the Meteorites from Surface study team. He has written more than 150 papers on this subject. He was the 1981 recipient of the Arizona ' State University Distinguished Achievement Award. The master of ceremonies will be the Honorable Dallin Oaks, presently of the Utah State Supreme Court and formerly president of Brigham Young University. In the last game the Spurs nipped the Dance program to begin Westminister College in Salt Lake City announces a new choreography and dance training program for children three and a half years old to 15, as well as adults. The program director, Ann Brunsvik Brown, will be teaching the program in Springville at 34 W. 200 S., as well as in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Brown literally grew up dancing with her renowned aunt, Virginia Tanner, and the Children's Dance Theatre. "The philosophy behind our approach to dance is to stimulate the children's own ideas and use them in the class," Mrs. Brown explains. "Small children aren't beginners. They have the natural ability (o dance, and if given some guidance, the ability to choreograph. That creativity is always there, but it seenis to get bred oul of children as they mature." Mrs. Brown holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah and a Master of Arts degree from BYU. While living in Springville. her husband. Randy C.
