He says that Cyclic Change is never staying in one spot for very long. It is riding the outermost edges of a pinwheel with an axis made up of all your hopes, dreams and desires. "Cyclic Change is chasing the proverbial carrot." Along with the Disko exhibit will be works by Osral B. Allred and Carl L. Purcell. His work has not sought public favor by adjusting to prevailing taste, but has attempted to adjust popular taste to his art. "I want to interject in-terject into my work my own emotions, how I feel, not just what I have seen. If you don't respond emotionally to my work, you can't call it art. Hate it if you must, but never ignore it. My art must have impact!" Schooled at Utah State University under Gael Lindstrom and Everrett Thorpe, Allred has continued their struc turally sound watercolor tradition in a very personal per-sonal way. Though different dif-ferent than his own direction in art, Osral Allred finds the work of Edgar Degas and Peter Paul Rubens stimulating and his contemporaries Leonard Baskin and Blakely motivating to his art. Osral and his wife, Linda, and their six children live in Spring City and Osral teaches art at Snow College in Ephraim. Carl L. Purcell Like his colleague at Snow College, Carl Purcell is an important Utah watercolorist. "Watercolor has fascinated me ever since I ruined my first piece of watercolor paper. It has a sparkling intimacy that is deceptively simple looking, and it combines the accidental and the controlled which forces the artist to adopt a method of attack which I refer to as controlled abandonment." Purcell was born in Fillmore in 1944 and after high school attended Utah State University. Like Osral Allred he too has an MFA in painting with a major emphasis in watercolor. He is now serving as head of the art department of Snow College in Ephraim and regularly exhibits his watercolors and etchings throughout the Western United States. His own art is a combination com-bination of powerful design with subtle nuances throughout. "I work directly," he pronounces, "but with a definite plan. I feel that composition is vitally important in all painting, and since watercolor presents little chance for major alterations to the design, I always do a drawing in powdered graphite and pencil to plan the composition first." "In the fiddler's house all are dancers." French Proverb An ideal storage container con-tainer for knitting needles is an empty aluminum foil box. Spinach is a member of the goosefoot plant family.
