Pool Sponsors Bowling Summer Splash news Springville Community Pool announces an exciting ex-citing list of events planned for the summer opener-Summer Splash. May 19 will be a fun filled day, with events planned for everyone, young and old to enjoy. Included registration lessons exhibitions, ming and evaluations will be for summer diving free swim- diving a free two hour swim for all, with refreshments to top off the afternoon. The pool also announces an-nounces the beginning of another lifesaving class starting Tuesday May 15, gives an outline of lessons sessions to aid parents in planning their summer and vacations, and also adds news for convenience con-venience of working parents who desire their children to take swimming swim-ming lessons. Registration for the first session of lessons will be at the Summer Splash. ; Registrants and ajl others will be treated on Saturday, May 19, starting at 11 a.m. to diving exhibitions and the fun will continue through the afternoon. The exhibitions will be performed by eight divers directed by Stan Curnow, BYU's diving coach; three members of Springville High's first diving team and divers under the direction of Lynn Leigh, the pool's diving instructor. Following the diving, those in attendance will take part in a free swimming and diving evaluation given by the pool's instructors. Participants Par-ticipants will be given an evaluation' sheet after demonstrating their skills. The evaluation sheet will designate what level of swimming the swimmer is on and make a recommendation as to if the swimmer can handle himself in the water enough to survive in case of an emergency or if future swimming lessons would be advisable to insure safety. After the evaluations, refreshments refresh-ments will be available just off the pool deck and parents may make arrangements for swim lessons for the summer if they desire. A free two hour swim will climax the day's activities. The first session of lessons will run June 4-18 daily with a makeup day on June 19th. The second will start June 25 and be completed July 19, the third session will start July 16 and be completed July 30. The fourth and last session will begin Aug. 6 and run through the 17th. All makeup days will be on the Wednesday , following completion of session. Makeup days for the later three sessions will be July 10, July 31, and Aug. 21. Evening sessions for the convenience of working parents from 5 to 6 p.m. will also be held in each of the four sessions. Classes available will include; beginning, advanced ad-vanced beginning, intermediate, in-termediate, swimmer and advanced swimmer. Other classes planned for the sessions are synchronized swimming, springwood diving, Mommy and me, survival swimming, water safety, rescue and advanced lifesaving, and another scuba class instructed by Tim Woolf will start June 5. An aide program will be available for those not yet old enough to be a swimming instructor but would like to learn the techniques by aiding an instructor. Our motto is: Something for Everyone, and these classes are being planned for your pleasure, so a plea goes out top "Support your local pool and help us get our feet off the ground this first year of operation," said Jo Ann De Haas, pool supervisor. Some classes are scheduled depending upon the desire expressed to us that we have them and the amount of interest in-terest shown. If your have an interest in a particular program, please leave a suggestion at the pool. Pool personnel are always happy to answer your questions and are out to make a friend this month, so stop in to say hello to the friendly people there. The new swimmer schedule for the pool will appear next week. It contains some interesting time spots particularly for teen and adult swimmers, be watching for it. Young Poulsen, who is in Troop 70 Springville 8th Ward, was presented a new scout book by Lucille Hampton, Springville Stake Blazer Scout director. Mikel loves scouting and has earned his Arrow of Light award and all 15 activity badges as a VVebelo Cub scout. He attends Middle School and is interested in sports, drama, reading and music. Neill in Governor's Corps Carol A. Neill. Springville, ' was among forty-four members of the "Governor's Corps" welcomed into the National Guard Saturday by Utah Governor Scott Matheson. The "Governor's I corps is a group who joined the Utah National Guard during a special recruitment drive from February through April.
