Show Grandson of local couple fifth ranking ice skater ; The grandson and -nephew of two local couples, was featured in a '.front page photo and story in last week's Church News. '. He is Russell Sessions, .Bountiful, grandson of ;Dean and Leona Muhlestein, and nephew :of Tom and Cathy ;Warriner, all of Springville. He is the son of Theral and Colleen ISessions, daughter and son-in-law of the Muhlesteins. Quoting the Church INews, "Russell Sessions -was 4 when his parents discovered he had asthma. asth-ma. They enrolled him in an ice skating class in Ogden and hoped he would outgrow it. "Today Russell is 22, and fifth ranking professional ice skater in the world. He has been skating strenuously both in practice and competition com-petition for 18 years and only rarely does he suffer an asthmatic attack. "The slender athlete, an elder in the Bountiful 22nd Ward, Bountiful Utah Stake, departs soon for the World Professional Ice Skating Championships. This was a return trip to "San Diego for the Cougarettes. People always ask lots of questions when they hear I'm from Utah - and quite often I'm the only Mormon present.' "Russell turned professional two years ago after gaining many honors as an amateur. He won the Utah juvenile men's championship when he was 9. By the time he was 20 he had captured first places in 16 meets in four states. '"I don't always mention it but there were some seconds, thirds, fourths and fifths among them, too,' he laughed. His highest honor came when he earned a gold medal in figures and freestyle in the Association (USFSA). He also earned a silver medal in pairs and a partial silver for dance. "Russell said when he performs, 'I skate for God first, because He gave me my talent. Then I skate for the audience and, last, I choose someone - they needn't be watching - and I think of them as I skate. Quite often it is my parents to whom I owe so much. Once it was a little boy who needed some special help.' "Russell teaches at the Bountiful City Park skating rink. 'He's just marvelous with pre Band to Eugene, Ore., for the BYU-Oregon football game. Miss Tuttle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Tuttle, now of Holden, Utah, near Fillmore, was a varsity cheerleader and won honors in GAA in track, tennis and volleyballl at Springville High School. She is now a sophomore at BYU majoring in dance. The 26-member Cougarettes, under the direction of Cheryl Dowling, performed at the BYU-San Diego game accompanied by the Cougar Band and a special drum unit. This is the highest Award given in the Cub Scouting program. Kirk also received a special plaque from the Hobble Creek District for receiving all 15 badges in the Webelos program. Top honors were claimed by a group of Springville - Mapleton junior Rifle Club members as they shot their way to the top in both the individual and team events. "Conserve theme for 42nd national wildlife week "Conserve Our Wildlife" will be the theme for the 1979 observance ob-servance of National Wildlife Week, March 18 through 24. More than 13 million schoolchildren, teachers and conservation-minded citizens are expected to participate in the 42nd annual observance of the week-first proclaimed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt Wildlife Week. J I AUDIT PROTECTION T If"" Call 798-3189 I evenings I 1979 - The Springville home sports Local woman bowler in bowling hall of fame Mrs. Shirley Schardine of Springville, President of the Utah Women's Association, and Mrs. Juanita Youngblood of Bountiful were inducted into the Utah Hall of Fame during the UWBA 40th Annual meeting at Steelworkers Union Hall Sunday. Both ladies were presented with a plaque and a bouquet of roses. Mrs. Schardine had been the president of UWBA for 12 years and was also made a life member of the state organization. She held the office of Southern Director before being elected president. Mrs. Youngblood was a member of the executive board prior to her election as Sargeant at Arms, a position she still holds on the state level. She has served in this capacity for 12 years. Mrs. Ruby Haskens of Salt Lake City, was elected president by the 72 officers, delegates and directors from throughout the state. Eelected second Vice President was Darlene Smith of Logan. Janae Anderson of Bountiful was elected Director from the Central Region and Dorothy Torsak of Ogden, Alora Hawker of '0' DESIGN Herald - Page Fifteen afield Provo and Elsie Jarvis of Orem were re-elected to the Board of Directors.
