If a wheel on your car gets stuck, don't try to free it by racing the engine, warns the Tire Industry Safety Council. The free-spinning wheel on the other end of the axle will turn at twice the speed on the speedometer and can cause the tire to explode from centrifugal force. Spinning your wheels in snow, ice, mud or sand doesn't really help gain traction and it could be dangerous, according to the Tire Industry Safety Council. Best results are obtained by gently rocking the vehicle back and forth.
