Patterson to celebrate 88th birthday anniversary An 88th birthday celebration is being planned for David A. Patterson at the home of his daughter Mrs. John D. (Beth) Jensen, 785 South 200 East, Springville, Thursday Feb. 15. David was born Feb. 13, 1891 at Spanish Fork, Utah, son of Joseph Randall Patterson and Agnes Measom. His childhood was spent working on a farm in Spanish Fork and Idaho. After serving in the U. S. Army Airforce in World War I he worked for U &l Sugar Co., and then as a mechanic for the California Packing Corp. at Spanish Fork, Utah. He married Nellie Elizabeth Stone in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 19, 1925. She died Dec. 9, 1961. They had five children: Glenn, Keith, and Iris (Phillips)., all deceased. Beth, living in Springville and Allan, living in Castle Dale, Utah. He has 21 grandchildren grand-children and 8 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Most of their married life thev lived in Salem, Utah. In 1948 they moved Springville. to l . f ' , a . f - Minnie A. Barker Minnie Barker to note eightieth birthday An open house will be held on February 27th from 1 - 5 p.m. to honor Minnie Averett Barker, wife of Hyrum Barker, at their home, 2V2 miles up the left hand fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. She will be 80 years old on February 20. Mrs. Barker has had six sons and one daughter, four of 'the sons and the daughter are still living. They have honored her with 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. The open house will be given by her daughter Marie West, wife of Vincent West of Springville. Her sons, Dean Barker of Salt Lake City, Loyd Barker of Springville, Norman Barker and Wayne Barker of Mapleton, and her daughter-in-law Lois Barker wife of the late Glen Barker. She has one brother, Evon Averett of Springville, and two sisters, Bessie Gourley of Springville, and Nora Larsen of LeLand, still living. Mrs. Barker has filled her life making quilts for all her grandchildren, and for many others to numerous to count. She has been industrious in genealogy and temple work, and has helped her husband with the farm chores all her married life which now totals 61 years. Friends and relatives are invited to call, the family reguest no gifts. PplllliiBillPillllllllii Amy Lyn Huntington, daughter of Mack and Julie Oldroyd Huntington Hun-tington of Castle Dale, turned one year old on February 13. Grandparents Grand-parents are Roland Uldroyd of Springville and the late Faye Oldroyd, and Feno Huntington of Castle Dale. She has one brother, Gregory, and a sister Jan Faye. Saturday Feb. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Mapleton City building. Doug was born in Nampa, Idaho to Alexander and Hattie Bills. He worked at Pacific State Cast Iron Pipe Co. for 45 years. Doug was a city council member for seven years and served as mayor of Mapleton for eight years. He has been active in church activities, building fund chairman, Secretary of Adult Aaronics, merit badge counselor in the scouts, Mapleton Fireman. Lenore was born in Mapleton, Utah to Elmer and LuElla Johnson Lenore is a charter A member of the LDS church, he is a high priest. When his wife Elizabeth was alive, they did temple work for several years in the St. George Temple. Mr. Patterson has always loved to work in his garden and yard, and has also enjoyed many hours of fishing with friends. member in the Musettes, past president of Jeune Mere Club, a charter member of Camp Union D. U. P., member of Mapleton Firemens Auxiliary. Lenore has always been active in church activities, ac-tivities, being past president of M.I.A., Primary teacher, visiting teaching lesson leader, and visiting teacher. They have seven children. Richard D., Kay, Mac, and Mrs. Ron (Diann) Wittusen of Mapleton, Mrs. Jay (Pat) Haymond of Salt Lake City, Mrs. De Vere (Nadine) Barnes of Lander, Wyoming, and Ted Bills of Long Beach, California. They have 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. They request no gifts. 'Jack' Bailey notes 80th year John E. Bailey (Jack) celebrated his 80th birthday bir-thday with family members Tuesday, February 13. Mr. Bailey has been a resident of Springville for the past 58 years. He was born Feb. 13, 1899 in Bluff, San Juan, Utah to John and Magnolia Walton Bailey. his retirement has spent He started working in Carbon County Coal Mines at the age of 17 and he operated the Black Diamond Mine for a period of 10 years. He continued working in the Mines until his retirement in 1964. Mr. Bailey has enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons and since many pleasant hours golfing. He is loved and respected by his family and enjoys sharing memories and experiences ex-periences with them. He married Velay Wahlin Dec. 17, 1921 and their marriage was later solomized in the Manti Temple. He is a high priest in the third Ward, Springville North Stake. Mr. Bailey is the father of three children, two sons and one daughter: John K. Bailey, San Diego, Calif, Robert (Tobe) Bailey, Springville and Bonnie B. Black, Hunt, Idaho. He has 12 grandchildren grand-children and 16 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren ; two sisters and one brother; Pauline Smith, Provo; Melba Gennings Provo, and Clifford W. Bailey, Provo. John E. Dr. Richard Gunn of BYU told of his recent tour of Russia and showed slides of many places at the February meeting of the Ladies Literary club. Julia Sumsion was hostess and Melva Smith had charge of the program. Leola Johnson, who spent some time the past summer in Russia and other European countries as a member of one of Dr. Gunn's tour groups, spoke briefly and introduced Dr. Gunn. Next meeting is March 13, at the home of Manila Brown. Carrie Gammell is in charge of the program. The February meeting of Camp Koda was held at the home of Bernita B. Morgan, with Margaret F. Wing and Maurine Manwaring as assisting hostesses. Irene S. Lowder, vice captain, conducted the meeting. Norma P. Castleton gave the lesson on "Pioneer Homes and Buildings" Oralynn B. Ash gave the story of "The Springville Bank Robbery of 1898." The March meeting will be held at the home of Beth S. Diamond. Meyo Inc.
