Governor proclaims H&F Day Compliments and flattery oftenest excite my contempt by the pretension they imply; for who is he that assumes to flatter me? To compliment often implies im-plies an assumption of superity in the complimenter. It is, in fact, a subtle detraction. Thoreau See me. E. DEAN BRIAN-' 295 S. Main. 489-9444 ! STATI FARM INSURANCE STATE FARM Insurance Companies Home Offices; Bloomington, Illinois . Governor Calvin L. Rampton signed a proclamation recently declaring September 25, 1976, as Utah Hunting and Fishing Day. In doing so he joined chief executives throughout the United , States, including President Gerald R. Ford, in supporting nationwide observance ob-servance of National Hunting and Fishing Day. The day has been set aside to recognize the role sportsmen have played in helping to preserve wildlife habitat and populations. Through participation par-ticipation in and funding of management programs and awareness efforts directed toward the heed for professional management and self-governing attitudes among sportsmen, out-doorsmen's out-doorsmen's contributions have greatly enhanced our wildlife. In the proclamation, Rampton said, "I encourage all of our citizens to join with sportsmen-conservationists sportsmen-conservationists in a rededication to the wise use of our natural resources and their proper management for the benefit of future generations. Further, I urge all citizens to take part in Hunting and Fishing Day activities on September 25 to learn - more about conservation con-servation and outdoor skills." Governor Rampton pointed out in the 'proclamation that hunters and fishermen have made outstanding contributions to conservation, recreation and the economy, and are deserving of special recognition. "In the last 50 years," the proclamation states," ... these sportsmen have provided $2.5 billion for conservation programs." They have asked for regulated seasons, bag limits, taxes on hunting and fishing equipment to raise monies to .buy critical habitat and fund research programs conducted by both private groups and state wildlife agencies. The National Hunting and Fishing Day observance, which occurs annually on the fourth Saturday of September, was first set aside on May 2, 1972. This year's Utah observance will be held at Valley Fair Mall in Salt Lake City on the 25th.
