Campton Valma Hutchings conducted and opening prayer was by Chaplain Hortense Edwards. The group sang "The Star Spangled Banner" led by Arlene Lewis, followed by the flag salute. Minutes were read by secretary Emma Long. Business was then conducted by Captain Hutchings reminding members of the DUP convention in Salt Lake City. History was given by Alice Sudweeks. Lesson leader Ilene Coffman gave "The Events of 1876." Light refreshments ' were served to 13 members by hostesses Margaret Snelson and Velma Hutchings. locust Grove Camp Locust Grove Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their September meeting at the home of Janet Bird. She presided and conducted. Prayer was given by Melva Smith; pledge of allegiance to the flag by the group; minutes and roll call by Rose Nielson. The regular history was ommitted and the life of Captain Kate B. Carter was talked about ' as a tribute to her life and recent death. The lesson was given by Mattie Davis, "Events of 1876." Molyneaux of Mona, formerly of Mapleton, of the engagement of their daughter Debra of Mapleton to Mr. Curtis B. Adams of Orem. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Adams, also of Orem. The couple plans to exchange nuptial rites in a Manti LDS Temple ceremony on September 24. A reception will be held in their honor the same night from 8 until 10 at the Springville Museum of Art. All friends and relatives are invited. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Springville High School and LDS Seminary. She attended Snow College where she majored in business and is currently employed in Provo. Faculty and staff of Utah Technical College at Provo this week opened a four-day workshop to prepare for the coming school year, and heard Utah Commissioner of Higher Education T.H. Bell keynote the conference by stressing the need for Utah students to develop marketable skills. Dr. Bell, the principal speaker at Tuesday's opening session, also pledged he would do everything in his power to see that Utah Tech receives sufficient suf-ficient funds to complete its Orem campus now under construction. con-struction. The workshop will continue through Friday as a combined faculty-staff venture but individual instructors will remain on duty in their shops, laboratories and classrooms from then until the opening of instruction on Sept. 27. Besides preparation for the start of school, this will make them available for advising and an-. swering inquiries from prospective students until classwork actually begins. Ruth Alice Thorpe Davis was honored Saturday at a family dinner in Orem com-memmorating com-memmorating her 80th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Davis was born Sept. 15, 1896 in Springville, to Levi and Mary Ruth Taylor Thorpe. She married Levi Davis in Provo and the marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
