Show fL mm iSitini mil H from SprngWffe Hgi Merrill Carter Forensics coach receives award Merrill Carter, Springville High School forensics coach, has been awarded the coveted double diamond award for outstanding leadership. It is noted that very few of the awards are given and less than half a dozen in the Western States District have been awarded. Mr. Carter has been teaching for ten years and has earned 3,674 points for his outstanding leadership as a teacher and in many positions he has fulfilled. He has served as representative of Utah High School Activities; representative to the Speech Communications of America and as president of Speech Arts of Utah. Many of his forenseics students have placed high in district and state competition. Civil Air Patrol sets Lagoon Day Utah Wing Civil Air Patrol will have a no host reunion at Lagoon, in Salt Lake City, on Sept 25, 1976 in the Maple Terrace, starting at 12 noon. Everyone who has ever belonged to Civil Air Patrol in Utah or another state is invited. Both former senior and cadets are welcomed. There will be a door to door canvass done by the members and the drawing will be on Oct. 1 at the Homecoming game. The quilt is a camping quilt made of red, white, and blue denim and red and blue flannel. Everyone is urged to help support this group of SHS students who perform all over the western states and give a wonderful representation of our school. Head couple for the group are Tami Harding, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen J. Harding and Bret Boyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boyer. Full-time LDS missionaries serving in area Two full time missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are serving in the Springville area. Elder Phillip McKay from Bay City, Texas, and Elder Joe Pennington, Charleston, W. Va., have been given what they termed a "choice assignment" serving - in the Provo, Springville, Mapleton, Spanish Fork and Payson areas. Elder McKay is a convert to the Church, having been a member 12 years. It was missionaries from Utah who taught his family. Elder Pennington Pen-nington grew up in the Church, but his parents also were converted con-verted by missionaries from Utah. Elder McKay is zone leader over Utah County and Eastern Utah. The duo works in full cooperation with Seventies and stake missionaries, and say they are averaging 12 baptisms a ' month. They give members credit for all the success in this area, as well as all the areas in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. The mission home is located in Bountiful at 270 E. 500 S. and the mission is presided over by President Eldon Cooley of Mesa, Harmon named to firm's board The Board of Directors of Mountain Fuel Supply Company today named James A. Harmon to serve as a director of the Company. He will replace J.T. Simon, who retired August 1, 1976, from the Board of Directors Direc-tors of Mountain Fuel. Mr. Harmon, age 40, is Chairman of the Investment' Banking Committee of Wer-theim Wer-theim Company, Inc., investment in-vestment bankers with headquarters in New York. He is widely experienced and well known in financial circles and is knowledgeable of the oil and gas industry. He is a director of several other publicly owned corporations in the United States. He is a graduate of Brown University and holds an MBA degree from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania. During the fiscal year July 1, 1975, to July 1, 1976, the mission had more than 2,700 baptisms, the missionaries explained. They said the mission has about 130 full-time missionaries now serving outside out-side of Utah. Most of them are older than 19 and are converts to the church. Workshop set A piano Masterclass-Workshop Masterclass-Workshop will be given by the eminent pianist, Joseph Banowetz, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the DeJong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Building at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. Mr. Banowetz will discuss and perform from his own Urtext-Masterclass Urtext-Masterclass Editions of Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Listz and Bartok. The worshop is designed for teachers of piano, and will bring to light many unique concepts in teaching, practicing and performing the original works of the world's greatest piano composers. Mr. Banowetz is widely known as a performer, editor, lecturer and teacher. He is currently on the artist piano faculty of North Texas State University, as well as having taught for six summers sum-mers for the University of Michigan at the National Music Camp at Interlochen. His training has included extensive work under the great Hungarian virtuoso Gyorgy Sandor. After early studies with Carl Fried-berg Fried-berg at the Juilliard in New York City, he entered the Vienna State Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, later graduating with bpth a 'first prize' in piano and an Artist Diploma cum laude. Banowtz has a number of recordings currently available on the Educo label and is a Baldwin artist. Tickets for cave tours may be purchased at the Visitor Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of 50 cents for anyone 16 years of age or older. There is no charge for anyone under 16, but they must remain with an adult throughout the entire hike. Groups of 10 or more persons need to make reservations by calling 756-4497 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. One adult supervisor is required for every ten persons under age 16. The schedule will remain in effect until October when the caves may be closed for a construction project.
