Show f f ; Local club lady speaker at national meet Mrs. Wendell Winger, past president of the UGFWC and currently serving as General Federation of Women's Clubs International Chairman of Community Improvement Program, was guest speaker last week at the Massachusetts State Federation of Women's Clubs midwinter conference held at Framingham, Mass. Mrs. Winger discussed the Community Improvement Program before a group of 1,000 women. Robert Pierpoint, CBS News White House Correspondent, was the other guest speaker who covered the topic, "The View From the White House Steps." During her official travels, Mrs. Winger has attended 26 state seminars where she has shared ideas and suggestions for community improvement and helped clubs set up a plan of action. The Community Improvement Program, co-sponsored by General Federation of Women's Clubs and Sears, Roebuck & Co., is a bi-annual international community improvement program which carries a number of cash prizes. There are two categories in the contest, metropolitan and nonmetropolitan, which carry five cash awards each. They are: 1st, $10,000 ; 2nd, $4,000; 3rd, $3,000 ; 4th, $2,000; 5th, $1,500. Each state also awards five cash prizes of 1st, $300; 2nd, $200 ; 3rd, $100; 4th and 5th, $50 each. During the 1968-1970 administration, ad-ministration, Springville won 1st place in Utah receiving $300. Springville is again entering the contest under the direction of Mrs. Milton Giles, Federated Clubs president. According to Mrs. Winger, the Federated Clubs in the Provo area are entering their project of collecting and recycling cans. Each state with all its clubs entered and reported in the improvement program will receive $50 outright. Utah has ten districts and is one of twenty states entered 100 percent. This money is used to promote further fur-ther community improvement. Mrs. Winger also attended the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Board of Directors meeting in Chicago. She was elected a member of the board of directors direc-tors last August. Miss Lori Martindale won first attendant in the Legion beauty contest. Her quiet charm and poise won the audience as well as the judges. ' Mr. and Mrs. Springville man with California Mr. and Mrs. Albert Del Crognale of Anaheim, Calif, announce the marriage of their daughter Michele Marie to Wesley B. Hoover, Santa Ana, Calif., and son of Mr. and Mrs. Bliss M. Hoover of this city. The nuptials were performed Jan. 29 at the LDS church in Anaheim in a 2 p.m. ceremony by Bishop Frank D. Wengert. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the -cultural hall which was decorated in a rose and pink color scheme. For the lovely occasion the bride wore white full skirted, long sleeved taffeta gown with embroidered satin overlay. Her flowing train was edged with embroidered satin as was her veil which was gathered to an embroidered velvet head band. Attending the bride was Barbara Wise of Honolulu, Hawaii, as matron of honor and bridesmaids, Lori Zink, LaHabra, Calif., Beth Collucci, Anaheim, Calif., and Debbie Elmore, Anaheim. Each wore wine colored velvet dresses with empire waists and short cape sleeves contrasting with the bride's attire. The tiny flower girl, the bride's niece, Joan Haneb, also wore velvet. The groom and best man, Dale Stewart, Palo Alto, Calif., and ushers, Ron Woolley, Palo Alto; Gary Beck, Huntington Beach; and Bob Reeves, Corona Del Mar, Calif., were attired in dark tuxedos. The ring bearer, the bride's nephew, wore a dark suit and carried a white satin pillow bearing the ring. The bride's bishop solemnized the vows and gave the couple wise counsel and advice. Bishop Wengert has been a real source of strength to the bride, a convert con-vert to the LDS Church of eight months and who was baptized a member by her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Hoover, the groom's parents, dined the wedding party the previous evening after the wedding rehearsal at the Top Hat Restaurant in Anaheim. Attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Cornell Men-denhall Men-denhall of Las Vegas, Nevada, uncle and aunt of the groom. Lori Martindale is runner-up in beauty event Lori Martindale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted J. Martindale, was selected as first runner-up to Robyn Swenson of Spanish Fork as Miss American Legion for District 4 which climaxed the Legion beauty pageant Saturday night at the Provo Veterans Center. Miss Martindale was the entrant of the Springville American Legion Post 28. She is a senior at the high school where she has been active in many school functions and has participated par-ticipated in productions there. She did the choreography for the musical, "Fiddler on the Roof" and is teaching the ballroom dancers at present. She has taken active part in student body organizations during her high school years. , The newly crowned Miss American Legion will compete in the Utah Department contest at Ogden Friday. Committees announced for annual Miss Springville Pageant event Epsilon Sigma Alpha, an education service sorority with an Alpha Theta Chapter established here, will sponsor the Miss Springville Pageant this year on June 1. Entry deadline is May 1. The chapter which has been organized for six years, has a goal of doing service within the community. They have assisted the Youth Center at the State Hospital, and the girls from the chapter have provided classes in charm, hairstyling and other subjects. King family history given club members Ardis Killpack was hostess for the recent meeting of the Effan Bee club whose members met at her home. Mrs. Killpack introduced Elva Tipton who reviewed the delightful and heart-warming book, "The Singing Kings" by co-authors Luise King Rey and Ora Pate Stewart. The biography of the King family is a convincing testimonial of how per-serverance per-serverance and dedication to a cause finally pays off. The story unfolds from the time that William King Driggs marries until his four oldest daughters start their career in radio and are offered a contract by a name band, Horace Heidt. Through hardships and poverty and though the family is forced to move constantly in hopes of bettering their financial circumstances, cir-cumstances, music is the thread that weaves their lives so very closely together. Mrs. Tipton in turn introduced the"MelloMrs." a vocal quartet consisting of Chadley Ann Thacker, Janet Woodfield, Mary Giles, and Linda Cluff who assumed the roles of the four King sisters and sang at appropriate ap-propriate intervals during the story. Loris Hayes accompanied the quartet. Selections included those popular in the 30's and 40's. A dessert luncheon was served to 23 members and guests with Reva Roylance assisting as co-hostess. co-hostess. Forbush of Mapleton and Mrs. Rosalie D. Forbush of Salt Lake City. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Bowen of Spanish Fork. Marriage vows will be exchanged in the Mapleton Church on March 3 with Bishop Russell Walker of the Mapleton Second Ward officiating. Following the ceremony a reception will honor the couple in the cultural hall. The couple plans to make their home in Spanish Fork following their marriage. The bride-elect is attending her senior year at Springville High and will graduate in May. She is a member of the Mapleton Second Ward and is presently employed in Springville. Mr. Bowen graduated from the Spanish Fork High School in 1970. He graduated from the third-year Seminary program. Presently he is attending Utah Technical College in Provo and is employed in Spanish Fork. She presented the book review entitled, en-titled, "Constantino Brumidi," Michelangelo of the United States Capitol." She illustrated her book with slides showing the Frescoes in the capitol. Luncheon was served to members attending and a guest, Mrs. Clyde Gammell. Family together for mother's birthday Family members enjoyed an evening out in celebration of their mothers birthday recently. Honored on the occasion was Mrs. J. A. Miller. A dinner at a cafe and visiting at the home were enjoyed. Mrs. Nell Condie introduced the program which was given by Mrs. Don Fullmer of Spanish Fork. She presented a very informative paper "Getting to Know George Washington."' Mrs. W. C Harrison gave a report of the Women's Legislative Council in which she reported Senator Wallace Gardner discussed the. budget for the coming year as passed by the legislature in its just concluded con-cluded session.
