Show OBITUARIES Services held for Funeral services were held last Thursday in Etna, Wyoming for Alice Valene Thorn Bateman, 42, a native of Springville, who died Jan. 17, 1972 in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born Oct. 26, 1929 in Springville, a daughter of Vernile E. and Bessie Whitney Thorn. She attended schools here and later served a mission for the LDS Church in the Great Lakes Mission. She married Rex H. Bateman in 1957 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had made their home in Etna. Surviving are her husband and seven children: Nolan, Claudia, Marsha, Richard, Stephen and Rosemary Bateman. She is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Vern Erwin Thorn and Eugene W. Thorn both of Mapleton; Raymond Thorn, Provo; and Kenneth (JoAnn) Card of Thanks We express our thanks to the many relatives and friends who assisted during the passing of our wife and mother, Irene Mortensen. Young of this city, son of Mr, and Mrs. Gene Young, who recently moved to Payson from here, has been graduated from the technical training course for U.S. Air Force administrative specialists at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Airman Young is now proficient in the preparation of Air Force correspondence and reports. He is a 1971 graduate of the Springville High School. His wife, DiAnn, lives in Cedar City at the present.
