As Brigham Young University students will attest, no calamity or disaster is responsible for the geat exodus, but a very happy occasion: Christmas Holiday. J. Elliot Cameron, dean of students, estimated that about 16,000 students will leave the Provo area for the holidays. The remainder of BYU's 24,000 students are residents of the area or cannot leave for distance or financial reasons. Mrs. Leah Parker, who coordinates co-ordinates a rider-driver service for students wishing to secure rides or riders to a particular locality, reported that close to 1,500 students used the service to make arrangements for holiday travel. The holiday season is a joyous occasion. Excitement comes through the anticipation of giving gifts, associating with our family and friends, and through taking time to seriously ponder the basic joys and worth of life. There is a certain special feeling that comes into existence, I suppose we call it the Christmas Spirit. We are about half way through the school year. Our children are anxious for the Christmas vacation. Perhaps it is the time for parents to think a bit about the educational growth being made by our children. We often of-ten become over involved with the material things when the finer fin-er things of life, such as spirituality, knowledge and understanding sometimes receive less attention than we would like to give them. How have your children been getting along in school? Have you had a good heart to heart talk with them about the importance of gaining knowledge? How are their attitudes towards school, towards themselves and their family, community and their church? You know, there are a lot of obstacles in life, but with the proper attitude they could almost be eliminated. In life there are personality conflicts and disappointments, but the children who have developed good attitudes about school and about life in general learn to feel good about themselves and are able to shurg off the disappointments. disap-pointments. Children must discover the excitement of learning and the fun that goes with school. I am sure that we as parents can do a lot to help our young people under stand how to get along in life. Certainly some of the best teachers we have are excellent time for parents to sit down with their children and talk about school, how they feel about it, and how they are getting along. As the New Year approaches and we tend to formulate New Year's resolutions let's develop some educational objectives for the purpose of making our system more worthwhile for our children in 1972. We appreciate the children of Nebo School district and hope they all have a happy, wonderful Chirstmas and holiday season.
