Show Page Six The Springville Herald December 16, 1971 Sociai looted DUP Camps in Springville and Mapleton held their annual Chirstmas programs in connection con-nection with their monthly meetings for December. CampKoda Members met at the home of Irene Lowder under the direction direc-tion of Captain Mary Johnson last Thursday. "Silent Night" was led by Chorister Alice Hudman. Prayer was by Sarah Weight. The lesson, "Heart Warming Stories" was given by County Captain Myrtle Childs. Gifts were exchanged and lunch was served by the hostesses, Arthella Anderson, Eula Bryan, and Norma Castleton. The next meeting will be January 13 at Faun Cameron's. Springville Camp The home of Clara Sumsion was the delightful setting for the DUP Camp Springville Christmas party Thursday. Three original Christmas poems by Mae Child were read by the author. The lesson was given by Emma Jean Phillips on "The Early Christmas of the Pioneers in Dixie". Also a history of Ezekial and Julia Hill Johnson who reared 16 children was given. There were 22 members present and two guests. A delicious buffet lunch was served by the hostesses, Clara Sumsion, Venna Vincent and Zella Carter. Mapleton DUP Mrs. A. E. Cox was hostess to the Mapleton DUP meeting Thursday where 20 members and 3 guests were in attendance. A reading was given by Marie Morgan after which Christmas carols were sung by the group. The lesson was given by Stella Stevens and Christmas refreshments refresh-ments were served by hostesses, Amanda Binks, Marie Morgan, Leola Johnson and Birdie Cox. Camp MU View Thursday, Beth Berrett was hostess to the Camp Mt. View DUP where they held their annual Christmas party. Captain Cap-tain Leonia Cameron welcomed members and guests and read a Christmas poem after which prayer was given by Chaplain Helen Ashcraft. Mrs. Harmon Hatch gave "Miracle of Christmas" and then a group from Spanish Fork a narrator and a trio-presented trio-presented a delightful Christmas presentation of music and the spoken word. Mrs. Darlene Evans was the narrator; Merle Ann Averett, Rae Shepherd, Sharon Guymon formed the trio with Janice Healey as their accompanist. The club members held a gift exchange and enjoyed visiting following the entertaining musical program. Christmas carols, accompanied by Mrs. Cameron. Minutes were read and roll call taken by Hazel Roylance. The lesson, "Live to the Faith" was given by Minnie Groesbeck. Mary Martindale gave a Christmas story, "A String of Blue Beads". Joyce Naranjo sang "White Christmas" Christ-mas" followed by a solo by Robert Woodward, "Holy Night". David Andersen sang "Silver Bells". Following the solo they combined to sing, "Still, Still, Still" accompanied by Lori Martindale, who also played a piano solo, "The Holy City". Tasty refreshments were served by hostesses, Beth Berrett, Helen Ashcraft, Lela Sumsion, Leonia Cameron and Nettie Thorn. Spring Creek DUP Members of Spring Creek DUP Camp met Thursday at the home of Lucille Johnson. Captain Cap-tain Clara Boyer was in charge. A lovely history of Nancy Jane Elspon Hammer, great great grandmother of Wanda Roskelley was given by Wanda. A beautiful Christmas story "Why The Chimes Rang" was given by May Issaacson. The lesson, "Benjamin Franklin Johnson's History" was presented by lesson leader Philda Finley. Christmas songs were led by Irma Brailsford and Christmas medley of selections on the piano were given by Henrietta Nelson. The group held a gift exchange and lovely refreshments were served by Lucille Johnson, Irma Brailsford, Delia Hone and Elenore Kinser, , 1 Camp Locust Grove ' Members of the femp Locust Grove DUP met December 9 at the home of Captain Melva Smith with Theora Haws as co-hostess. co-hostess. ' Vida Shephers presented the lesson, "Pioneer Christmas Stories". A recorded story of Scrooge was narrated by Ronald Coleman. Two pioneer heritage books were given, one to Elizabeth Miner and one to Afton Clark. Members exchanged Christmas gifts and luncheon was served to 11 members and two visitors. Effan Bee Club at Christmas party Annual Christmas party of the Effan Bee Club was held at the beautifully decorated home of Harriet Burt. A delightful program of Christmas music followed supper which was served by the hostess assisted by Verlaine Swenson and Jean Ivory. Numbers on the program included the following: girls trio, Beverly Frahm, Joan Bartholomew Bar-tholomew and Dede Hopkinson who sang, "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas". Kris Bartholomew played a piano solo, "Sleigh Ride", and David Andersen concluded with his rendition of "Mary's Little Boy Child". Delia Hall, club member, highlighted the evening's entertainment en-tertainment by giving a Christmas story, "A Candle in the Forest" by Temple Bailey which depicted the true meaning of Christmas. Original games were then played and each guest received a gift from beneath the Christmas tree. The next regular club meeting will be held January 12 at the home of Val Clement. A gift is special. Serveral selections were given by the "Sweet Adelines" and Sheila Pickering and Carolyn Murdock sang songs accompanying ac-companying themselves on guitars. Beautiful centerpieces used in the decorations were won by Leland McKenzie and Sharlene Barber. Queens of the group were honored. Monthly queen honors were won by Gwen Cutler. TOPS KOPS winner was Lillian McKenzie. Beverly Clement won the weekly queen title. Makeup, hair color demonstrated at club Members of the Cultural Arts Club met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Earl Child. The program was presented by Ruth Hatfield and she demonstrated the art of makeup and hair color. . Plans were discussed for the annual Christmas party. A delicious luncheon was served to 20 members. Miller family gathered at the Royal Inn for dinner and visiting Saturday evening in commemoration of the birthday of Woodrow Weight which occured earlier in the week. Some of the party members attended the BYU basketball game following the dinner.
