Roundup Rodeo results released A Frontier player tries to slide in and take the ball from an Aztecs player, but is unsuccessful in his attempt. Vernal Aztecs battle remain undefeated By Ryabi Alleri Express Writer The Aztecs, a Uintah Basin Soccer League team from Vernal, played the Frontier from Craig, Colo., Sunday in a battle for first place in the league. Their game was Sunday at 2 pm at the fields behind the USU-Uintah Basin campus in Vernal Both teams entered the game undefeated and they were looking look-ing at a first place decision on the field. The Aztecs and Frontier both wanted the opportunity to leave the field undefeated. Just minutes into the game, the Aztecs had scored. A pass into the box put the team into position to score into the bottom left corner of the net. Every move was planned out and made with such fluidity that it looked effortless. Every member mem-ber of each team seemed to know what their fellow teammates were thinking, which made for some great soccer to watch. Throughout the first half, the Aztecs were in control of the pace and flow of the game, and most of the scoringopportunities were by theAztecs.Awell-trained offense attacked in the first half, backed up by a defense that played well, letting next to nothing past them. But late into the first half, the Frontier overcame the Aztecs and took advantage of a rare scoring scor-ing opportunity to tie the game 1-1. It was an even game on the scoreboard, but the Aztecs still appeared to be in control. In the second half, Frontier appeared to be reborn with a new energy to match that of the Aztecs. And a couple of minutes into the half Frontier scored on a shot from mid-field that floated right above the fingers of the Aztecs' goalie. But the Aztecs responded and tied the game 2-2. Later in the half, the Aztecs stole the ball and took it down the left side of the field before cossing into the box for the go-ahead goal. The Aztecs took a 3-2 lead. But the lead was short-lived. When a ball was lobbed down the field by Frontier the Aztecs tried to trap them offsides. But the official didn't see it that way. He allowed the play and the Frontier player went onto score the game-tying goal. With a 3-3 finish, both teams remain undefeated. , r ..
