Show Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Vernal Express Winners of 20th annual Josie Shoot announced B10 Once again the Outlaw Trail Festival .22 Rifle Josie Shoot has been declared a great success as 89 mothers, daughters, sisters and girlfriends traveled from far and near with to participate in this one of a kind shooting event. Four generations of the Willoughby family of Coalvile arrived in matching Josie Shoot 20th Anniversary shirts. Their 80 years young matriarch, Joye Willoughby held the honor of being the oldest contestant, and was presented with an afghan donated by Sue Swain from Alaska. Also attending from Coalville were the Winters family fam-ily who donated several vests embroidered with Josie Shoot 20th Anniversary. These two families have participated in the Josie Shoot for several years Since the old paper targets were replaced by spinners, participants were able to enjoy watchingthe action on the range as they waited their turn to shoot. The Josie Shoot is a friendly event with the sole purpose of encouraging females to enjoy the shooting sports with friends and family in a light hearted non threatening atmosphere. To make this possible, the v J -e:r ' ' " i ,', " """" t' Junior scope winners were first place Kecia Jackson, second place Amberlee Partridge and third place Chelsie Strole who is not pictured. .22 rifle, donated by National Oil Well and the early registration registra-tion prize, a painting of Josie's cabin painted and donated by A. D. Shaw, are given away in a free drawing. Katie Kurtz won the rifle and Jenell Merkley won the painting. Browning donated all the prizes earned for high scores The crazy patch quilt created by Coordinator, Carole Jackson each year for a fundraiser, was won by Mach'ee Caughey. The funds from the quilt and cash donations by Mustang Drilling and Brett Woods make it possible pos-sible to still keep the entrance fee $5.00, the same as it has been for twenty years. A beautiful watch created by Dixie Ufford was won by Jenell Merkley. The Josie Shoot is part of the Arts Council's Outlaw Trail Festival, and in that light, Jackson seeks prizes created by local artists. The Josie Shoot wouldn't be possible without help of friends and family. These volunteers have been part of the Josie Shoot for years and their dedication is greatly appreciated. Also appreciated appreci-ated is the support of Individuals who donate prizes or food, and the Vernal Express, Local radio stations, Uintah Arts Council, Uintah Basin Library, DWR, and Chamber of Commerce who get the word out to the public. Organizers thank E-Z Pawn for doing the background check for the winner of the rifle, and Vernal Rod and Gun for the use of their range and lodge. The 2009 Josie Shoot will be on the last Saturday in June. For information, contact Carole Jackson, ccjackeasilink. com. It High score overall was Machee Caughey 5 -....
