Gary and Beth have 19 grandchildren (one deceased), 35 great-grand Kingsbury Community Church's new pastor . i .'1 Kirk Thomas, ngw pastor at Kingsbury C6mmuhityiChUrchi Kirk thomas has been called to serve as pastor for Kingsbury Community Church, United Church of Christ. Locally referred re-ferred to as "the round church," the office, church and community house are located at 65 E. 100 north in vernal. Thomas comes from San Francisco, Calif., where he has been a member and leader of the First Congregational Church, UCC. Entering ministry as a second career, Thomas studied at Harvard Divinity School and the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. After completing a year internship as minister-in-training at the Orinda Community Church, UCC, he was called back to serve that same church for 15 months as an interim pastor during dur-ing their search for a permanent associate pastor. Currently a licensed pastor, Thomas will be formally ordained into the Christian ministry of the United Church of Christ in a ceremony in San Francisco this fall. i ft L.. j 1 New Substitute Teacher Training Uintah School District will be conducting Substitute Teacher training on August 12, 2008 at the District Offices starting at 9:00 a.m., please do not be late. 1 ' A ,T ft . miniver-tawy. children (three deceased), one great-great-grandchild, and many step-grandchildren that they love as their own. A family barbecue will be at their home in Jensen on July 30. Thomas was born in Seattle and raised in Denver where he was educated in the public schools. He was baptized and confirmed at the Kirk of the Bonnie Bon-nie Brae Congregational Church, UCC, singingin the church choirs from age 5 through 18 and he was active in the youth fellowship. Thomas received his undergraduate under-graduate degree in political science sci-ence and history from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. A a Rockefeller Fellow graduate student, he received the Master of Theological Studies degree from the Harvard Divinity School. After living in the Boston, Mass., area for 13 years, Thomas moved to San Francisco, where he has resided for the past 23 years prior to his move to Vernal. In San Francisco, he volunteered as a support group facilitator for the Stop AIDS Project, the Shanti Project, the AIDS Health Project, and the Kairos Project. He was also a board member of the advocacy group Scouting For All. Before and during his recent re-cent seminary studies, Thomas worked as a legal assistant for 13 years at the California Appellate Project, a non-profit law firm in San Francisco that assists legal counsel appointed to represent California death row inmates in their mandatory appeals. "My sister and her family and my mother reside in Salida, Colo. ; my two brothers and their families fami-lies live in Portland and London, respectively," Thomas said. His interests include history, family research, singing, swimming swim-ming and mountain backpacking. backpack-ing. He says he is particularly keen about becoming acquainted with others who enjoy hiking the mountain and canyons of northern Utah. 1 . We have five names for the group, including Chris McKinley, Deb Casada, Vick Waite, Dwight Wetenkamp and Pat O'Toole. According to Gene Hall the Vernal Classic Golf Tournament and Dinoland Golf Course came out of the Empire Club in the early 1950s. That was back when the city bought the course for a mere $94,000. He said the men were probably winners of the different flights. Nina Pease, who also gave us information about the golf course, said the previous picture of a man and woman was not that of the Drs. Fowler. He is the son of Bruce and Gayla Harvey of Vernal. Harvey is a member of Troop 239 and his Eagle Scout project was cleaning the cemetery.
