Head Coach Shanon Johnson told his girls to not let the ball into Lauren Deane's - the Miners' Min-ers' leading scorer - hands. "I just told them it was going in to Deane so try to deny her the ball as much as you can," he explained. "No threes, if you rgoing to foul make sure they don't make the basket. Rebound and worse case scenario we go to overtime." The timeout ended and the teams took the court, Park City inbounded the ball and were able to get a shot off that went in, tying the score and leaving three seconds on the clock. The game was going into overtime, three seconds isn't time to do anything. Unless you are a lady Ute Basketball player. Caitlin Chivers took the inbound pass and pushed the ball up the court, Lesha Labrum waited all alone underneath the hope, Chivers hit her with a perfect pass. Labrum scored the layup as time ran out taking Uintah to a 41-39 win. "The final play had absolutely zero to do with coaching," said Rondee stands in front of the Parliament Building while in London to cheer during the 2008 New Year's Day Parade. She was a part of the UCA All Star Varsity Team. Rondee Jones returns from London cheer trip Mind the Gap and other fun British teams were some of the things Rondee Jones experienced in London. Jones and 654 other cheerleaders were fortunate enough to compete in the 2008 New Year's Day Parade with the UCA All Star Varsity Team. The week was full of great adventures, adven-tures, food, learning, shopping, meeting new acquaintances and lots of fun. During her short week there she was able to see and visit the Tower of London, where the queen jewels are kept; the famous London Bridge; Buckingham Palace; St. Paul's Cathedral, where Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married; Windsor Castle, the summer home of the queen; The Eye, London's largest larg-est Ferris Wheel; Westminister Abbey, where many kings and queens of the past are buried; along with Parliament, Big Ben, Shakespeare's Globe Theater and the London Dungeon. Not only did she visit many great sites, but she was able to do some shopping in Piccadilly Market, Mar-ket, Covenant Gardens Oxford Circus and the famous Harrod's Department Store. Jones had her pictured taken tak-en with many "bobbies," the queen's guards, and great historical histori-cal buildings. New Year's Day was spent marching and performing the two mile parade where she performed per-formed her cheer approximately 15 times to large groups of supporters. sup-porters. There were four large groups of cheerleaders representing represent-ing the United States. "What an awesome week," she said. "It was fun representing UHS and the Uintah Basin." She thanks her sponsors for the help. Christensen upsets All-Star wrestling match Colby Christensen upset 2007 4A State Champion Raider Lofthouse 8-3 at the All-Star Duals in Provo. "It was just a heads up play by Caitlin to look up the floor and make the pass and a great effort by Lesha runningthe floor and finishing the play with nerves of steel. The players get all the credit for the finish." He added, "Park City was slow getting down the floor because I don't think they realized how much time was left. They thought it was going into overtime. That was the longest three seconds of my coaching career." The game was the Utes' throughout the first three quarters quar-ters because of hustle and defensive de-fensive plays. Park City rallied in the fourth, fighting their way back into the game. "We really struggled keeping keep-ing 6'5" Nicole Bishop off the boards," explained Johnson. "We didn't make any contact on the rebounds, therefore we ended up trying to rebound it right under the rim and she just rebounded over the top of us. We left too many points at the free throw line." Park City outscored Uintah 16-10 in the fourth. In the previous three quarter Uintah frustrated the Miners with a committee of players. "The game plan was to try and use a committee of players to try and slow down their star player and keep Bishop off the boards," the coach said. "Sophomore "Sopho-more Charly Severson got her first start of the year, specifically to try and make Deane work as hard as she could. She is long, athletic ath-letic and tough so we figured she might match up well. She, along with Ashley Espindola, Whitney Johnson Keisha Chamberlain and Maylnne Chamberlain, really re-ally gave us a boost." Johnson added, "These girls don't show up in the box score every week, but in this game they were, definitely, the unsung heroes." Labrum led all scorers with 13, Makenzy Simper finished with seven. Chivers and Jordan Jor-dan Tripp each had six. Keisha Chamberlain threw in four and Krystal Calder had three. Severson Sever-son finished with two. The Utes finished up the week withabigloss, 63-27, to the number num-ber one team from Wasatch. "I don't think I had us emo-tionallyready emo-tionallyready forthegame," said Johnson. "We would have to play almost perfect to beat Wasatch but I know we can play them better than we did next time." Tripp led the scoring and rebounds with eight in each category. cat-egory. Simper had six, Labrum had four. W Johnson, Stephanie Garner, Calder and Espindola all scored two. K. Chamberlain had one. The Utes will next face Judge Memorial at home on Jan. 25. The game will start at 7 p.m. The Utes loss to the Bulldogs in their last meeting, but Johnson feels playing at home might change things. "I don't think the kids will be quite as nervous this time around," he said. "We know we can play with them and we know how to beat them. Now it's just up to us to get it done come game time." The Utes are in third place in Region 10 as they begin the second half of region competition. competi-tion. They will be looking to lock up a playoff berth. " The next round will probably be more difficult than the first, hopefully we'll just keep playing together andworking hard," said Johnson. n iui . in -r t f - ' 1 filial li ill 1 V it V 4 .3 t " A' .a A -r s Jordan Tripp chases after the ball, trying to grab it before it goes out of bounds.
