TheUintahUteslostabeloved member of their basketball team, Michael Hadlock, on Jan. 12. On Jan. 15 they suited up to face the Park City Miners. Although the No. 45 jersey still hung in its locker, members of the student body painted the number on their shirts in his memory. During the pre-game ceremony, the Hadlock family was honored, and a moment of silence was taken. The Utes wiped the tears from their eyes and stepped onto the-court. - From tip-off to the moment Uintah stepped off victorious, it was obvious a silent moment would not be the only way they honored their teammate. With 58-51 on the scoreboard, and the most meaningful win of the season was the night's most fitting fit-ting tribute. "The Park City game was one of the hardest games I have ever coached," said Head Coach Scott Mansfield. "There were some serious emotions were all dealing with. We did not know how we were going to react to the emotions emo-tions and how to handle all of the pre-game stuff. I thought the key to the win was our determination and focus for the Hadlock family."' fam-ily."' Uintah was led in scoring by Lance Hansen with 21. Uintah's speedy guards were better suited to running the floor, although Park City tried to keep up. S 1 1 i Josh Curtis finished with 16, Derek Bunderson had nine. Cylor Morgan scored four and Charles Denny threw in three. Dax Upton and Kyler Monsen had two each. "The win was huge for us both emotionally and in the standings," stand-ings," said Mansfield. The Utes' next match-up came against the Wasatch Wasps, losing in a high scoring game 74-64. "The pace of the Wasatch game was faster than most we have been playing," explained the coach. "The have some good athletes that are good players. They were able to make a couple of runs on us and it took us time to responds. It thought it was our best played game of the year." Against Wasatch, Uintah was led by Monsen with 14. Hansen had 13, while Curtis and Bunderson Bunder-son each scored 12. Denny fought for 10. Upton and Morgan each scored two. "We played hard and had some players step up," continued Mansfield. Man-sfield. "I thought we executed our game plan well, we just came up a little short." One player who has stepped forward in big way is Josh Curtis, who has finished in double digits during the last few games. "Josh has been playing better offensively," explained Mansfield. Mans-field. "I think the only difference between now and the beginning' 1 i (J, W - k 4 . f ' ji'TMIi of the season is confidence. He knows he can score and be a threat offensively. That helps a ton if we are getting points in the paint. Teams now have to make that an emphasis or we will take advantage inside." Monsen had a big game against Wasatch after struggling in few games with scoring. Something Some-thing the Utes need from him. "We are not talented enough to rely on one person have a good game to win," said Mansfield. oayp malty OPEil Supply! " SUIPEi Prices!
