Show Wednesday, October 4, 2006 A3 Jensen Pumpkin Festival to be held this month HUNTING FOR A GOOD DEAL? COME TO Jones Paint & Glass October 4-7 This fall on Saturday the 28th of October, the 11th Annual Jensen Pumpkin Festival will be held in Jensen Community Park from 5 to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to carve or paint a pumpkin. Entries can be dropped off at the park the afternoon of the festival and taken home that evening. The theme for this year is "When Dinosaurs Roamed the Land." Participants are encouraged to follow the theme, but aren't restricted to it. There is no entry fee and the pumpkins are not judged; this is not a contest, it is just a chance for people to show their skills and creativity. The Jensen Fire Department will be monitoring a bonfire, and there will be refreshments served by local groups. The proceeds from the refreshments refresh-ments will be donated to the park or used to help youth programs pro-grams throughout the winter. The festival is well attended every year and is worth being seen by anyone visiting the Basin during the fall season. , Vernal Express, Vernal City Police Blotter The Police Blotter is a sampling sam-pling of crimes from police reports re-ports in Vernal City. 92606 Drug Possession: Officers responded to a complaint of a male subject sleeping under a blanket on a lawn near a bus stop. Columbus Day history According to history, land was sighted by a sailor on board Christopher Columbus's Pinta in the early morning of Oct. 13, 1492. This first sighting in the Americas started the exploration explora-tion and expansion that built North and South America. The next day, the 90 crew members of Columbus's Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria are said to have ventured onto the Bahama island the natives called Guanahani, and Columbus named San Salvador. Pinpointing the exact island is debatable because the original log book of Columbus was lost. To Whom It May Concern, My name is Alyson Hileman and I am asking the Vernal Express to publish this letter in reference to the defaming letters posted at local businesses and main streets about me. I would like for the public to know that the letters were not written by me and are instead a vindictive attempt to harass me, my family, and my family's business. Several people have contacted me in reference to the language and content of the letters and are very concerned for my safety and the safety of their businesses. Because of the nature of the letters, the way they were presented, and the clear disregard the author has for our community, I, along with several local businesses have turned the letters over to the police. Although I am deeply hurt and disturbed by the obscene language and literal bold faced lies within the letters, I feel that this is a matter for the police. I wish to ask for those in Uintah County who have had these letters posted near their homes and business to assist the Vernal Police Department by turning in these letters. My family and I thank you for your cooperation in this very sensitive matter. We are confident that the perpetrator will be found. Sincerely, Alyson Hileman Fall at Red Canyon Lodge, where civilization makes an appearance every weekend. Enjoy a tk-iioious meal at Flaming Gorge Country's premier resort.
