Show B8 Wednesday, September 6, 2006 .Vernal Express. Utes defeat Union 9-1 in first Region game of the season After a successful pre-sea-son, Uintah High School's JV and Varsity girls soccer teams carried their success into the regular season, winning big against Union High School on Thursday 9-1. . The Varsity team ended their game with nine goals out of 57 shots. Union scored only once with five shots. Kaleena Peltier and Kenzy Simper led the team with three goals each, followed by Kandice Redden with two goals and Catlin Chivers with one. "We've got a really good group of girls who have worked hard all year long," said Coach Cort Pierce. "This was a direct result of their hard work." Pierce said Uintah has never lost to Union, but last year Uintah won by only two goals. Based on their 9-1 win this year, he said the team has clearly improved. At this time last year, the Uintah Varsity had won one game and lost seven, compared to this year's five wins, one loss, and one tie. Pierce said in order to go state, Uintah needs to beat Union one more time and win three more regional games. They will have their chance this week at the home games against Park City on Tuesday and Judge Memorial on Thursday. These two games are crucial, cru-cial, according to Pierce. Park City and Judge have won state several times in the past, making this one of the toughest tough-est regions in Utah. Last year Uintah lost 12-0 to Park City, which is considered to be the best team not only in the region but in the entire state. Pierce is hoping to keep the number of goals Park City scores down this year. He told his girls to play like it is the state championship. "It's great practice for us," he said. The JV team played equally equal-ly well in their game against Union, winning six to two. Annalise Lewis and Geri Lou Rasmussen both made two goals and Callie Burgess and Jade Johnson each scored one. i nnMnnA rui -21 Recreation District Where jm, amtt xMumtfy. 134 West Main, 101 Vernal, Utah SWTS Phone: (435) 781-0982 Fax: (435) 781 -0986 Youth & Teen Programs; Itty Bitty Ball Aj$ 3 - 5 , Fi $15 until full Future Jr. Jazz Ages 5-8 Feet $15 until full Youth tf Teen Volleyball League Grades 3 - 8, Feet $30 until Sept. 8 Youth Basketall Grades 3rd 4 4th Coed and 5th Grade Boys . .
