Show A4 Wednesday, September 6, Obituaries Mar "Slim" Ross Mar "Slim" Ross, 92, died Thursday, August 31, 2006 at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1913 in Vernal, a son of Isaac and Fannie Jane Young Ross. On Nov. 17, 1934, Slim married mar-ried Thelma Street in Salt Lake City. Following their marriage they lived in Roosevelt. Later they moved to Brigham City where they resided for 30 years, again in Roosevelt for another five years, followed by Farr West for the past three years. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and strongly looked forward to the Bible's promise of a paradise earth. He worked for many years as an aircraft engineer. engi-neer. Slim enjoyed playing the guitar. For years he earned his living as a part of the Rhythm Wranglers Band. Most of all, Slim was devoted to his wife and family. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Tex (Mary) Ross, Vernal, and Elaine (Glen) Stanley, West Valley City. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Linda Bigelow, three infant children, son-in-law Warren Harris, three grandchildren, grandchil-dren, one great-grandchild, and eight brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be Robert "Bob" Lavon Blackburn Robert "Bob" Lavon Blackburn 64, passed away August 22, 2006. He was born June 26, 1942 in Compton, Calif, to Albert L. and Stella Brown Blackburn. Bob married Sue Lynn Hazel on May 25, 1965 in Price, Utah. They have five children; Scott, Rodney, Susan, Ryan and Shawna. His family was everything every-thing to him. He loved spending spend-ing time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed having hav-ing family BBQ's and watching watch-ing westerns, baseball and NASCAR. Bob was a great provider for his family and developed many skills in the process. He spent many years working as a coal miner, welder and construction worker. Bob has been retired for the last six years. He has enjoyed the extra time to spend with his grandkids and take care of the yard. Everyone who knew Bob was charmed by his humor and will miss him. He was the first son of Hugo and Enid Hullinger. Jay graduated grad-uated from Granger High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1972 aboard the USS Simon Lake. Jay worked for Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation from 1975 until his retirement as a construction and maintenance main-tenance supervisor of the Northwest Region. Ralph Cal Stacy Murdock Ralph Cal Stacy Murdock, Lapoint passed away on Sept. 3, 2006 in Salt Lake City. Ralph was born in Heber to Stacy and Gertrude Sexton Murdock. He spent much of his life driving truck and doing maintenance work. Ralph served in the military mili-tary during World War II as a navigator in weather conditions and assisting with aircrafts. He is survived by children: Brenda, Kerry, Lauri, Marsha, Scott, Dayna and Ryan. Ralph is also survived by 22 grandchildren grandchil-dren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 at the Lapoint LDS Chapel. A viewing view-ing will be held Friday evening eve-ning from 6-8 at the Thomson-Blackburn Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, and at the chapel one hour prior to the services. Jay married Robin Watson in 1998. They enjoyed camping, fishing and just spending time together. Jay was an avid outdoors-man. outdoors-man. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hunt-ing, hiking and camping. He loved to run and competed in four marathons. He had many hobbies and was skilled at fly-tying, fly-tying, building fishing rods, and carpentry work. Jay is survived by his wife, Robin; children, Dena Bailey (Craig), Elise Neilsen (Ryan) and Travis (Devin) Hullinger; eight grandchildren; his mother moth-er Enid; sisters, Ginny and Chris; brother, Clark; mother-in-law, Donna Watson and friends too numerous to name. Joe Cranford Joe Cranford Joe Cranford was a lifetime resident of the Uintah Basin. Joe was born in Vernal on Feb. 4, 1953 to Jennie Alice Karren Cranford and Jack T. Cranford. He passed away August 27, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Joe is survived by one daughter: Jennifer (Raymond) White and three grandchildren, grandchil-dren, Raymond White, Tarry White and Tymarie White of Vernal. Two brothers: Jack M. Cranford of Rock Springs, Wyo. and Jerry L. Cranford of Las Vegas, Nev. Joe is also survived by one very special friend and confidant, Robert (Bud) Covington of Vernal. Bud was a lifetime friend of the family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jennine Cranford. Joe was employed most of his life by Craig Caldwell and Hiko Bell Mining & Oil Company as a mud logging engineer. Craig Caldwell was a mentor and long time friend and advisor. He often referred to Joe in comparison to Frank Sinatra in that he "did it his own way." Joe didn't do anything any-thing in his life for any length of time that he did not want to do. Joe lived his life the way he wanted to live it; Rock and Roll music and John Wayne movies. Some of his favorite musicians were Pink Floyd, Grand Funk Railroad and Fleetwood Mac among many, many others. Joe also appeared with Robert Redford as an extra in the movie Jeremiah Johnson. Joe also accompanied his friend Bud Covington on many mining min-ing and mineral expeditions. The greatest love of Joe's life besides his family was the mountains and a stream or lake to fish in. He would tell you, "No fish was safe when he had a fishing pole with him." He delighted in hiking and spending time either alone or with friends on a camping trip. He was the master of the camp fire. He also enjoyed hunting hunt-ing for arrowheads, relics and unusual rocks. Joe was an avid gardener and very attentive to anything he planted. He especially espe-cially enjoyed growing tomatoes toma-toes and peppers. God has a new angel in heaven heav-en and he came with fishing pole in hand. Joe had a great love for life and saw only the good in everyone he met He will be missed by friends and family. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. A viewing was held Wednesday evening from 6-8 6-8 p.m. and at the Mortuary one hour prior to services. Burial was in the Rockpoint Cemetery under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. |
