Committee calls for affordable housing for Basin residents The Uintah Basin Homeless Coordinating Committee, formed in May of 2005 and representing rep-resenting over two dozen public and private organizations serving serv-ing low-income and homeless people, will sponsor two meetings meet-ings on Affordable Housing for property owners and landlords on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Two times and locations are offered for convenience. The first meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Uintah County Building, North Conference Room, 152 East 100 North, in Vernal. The second meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the "Bonus Room" at the UBET Building, 211 East 100 North, in Roosevelt. The purpose of the meetings is to inform property owners and landlords about public housing programs and possible assistance available to them if they will make rental units affordable to low and fixed-income fixed-income families and individu als. Housing program representatives repre-sentatives from state and local programs will be on hand to explain incentives and answer questions about how programs work. UintahCounty Commissioner Mike McKee chairs the Uintah Basin Homeless Coordinating Committee. Commissioner McKee has noted the outstanding outstand-ing economic benefits of the gas and oil industry to the area, but has also expressed concern: "Rents are rising dramatically for many of our Basin citizens who cannot afford it. They need affordable places to live. So we are calling on property owners and landlords across the Basin to consider affordable housing options that provide a winwin situation for everyone." Property owners and landlords land-lords are encouraged to attend these meetings. Additional information is available by calling call-ing (435) 548-2630. . |
