Uintah wins two last week in volleyball In Basin volleyball last week, the I'iniah girls volleyball team extended their winning record to 4 w ins and 1 loss by defeating defeat-ing the Union Cougars on Tuesday in Roosevelt and the Bulldogs from Judge Memorial in I'inlah's gym on Thursday. The team plays away this week in Park City and hopes to continue contin-ue their winning ways in order to he ready to meet up again with their only loss of the season sea-son to the Wasatch Wasps. That match may prove to be the decisive deci-sive w in for either team sending them as the Region's 1 seed to state competition at the end of October. Bjornson, Ph.D. Express Sports Writer Even with a well-executed offensive attack, with quarterback quarter-back Chris Morton throw ing for 244 yards and four touchdowns, the Utes came up short in the end. In the first quarter of the football foot-ball contest against Wasatch, the Uintah Utes pounced on the Tigers early in the contest when Morton completed a nine yard pass to Joe Lawson. This was fiollowed by a successful point after kick by Daniel Hyde giving giv-ing the Utes a 7 - 0 lead. After a Wasatch fumble on their first play of the game, Morton connected con-nected w ith Jake Gardener from 17 yards out for another touchdown. touch-down. In the second quarter, the Tigers scored their first touchdown touch-down with a 14 yard touchdown touch-down run by Jordie Smith, on his way to 95 yards rushing for the game. In second half play, Wasatch held the Utes scoreless in the third quarter, while they evened the contest with a 26 yard running run-ning touchdown and successful point after kick. The game was tied 21 - 21 as they went into the fourth quarter. Wasatch's Pat Burns eclipsed the 100 rushing yard mark as he scored a touchdown touch-down on a 19 yard run. The successful point after kick gave the Tigers a 28 - 21 advantage. Uintah answered the challenge by scoring another touhdown on a 28 yard pass from Morton to Lawson with 1:18 to play. This set the stage for a dramatic ending, end-ing, where the Utes went for the win by attempting a two point conversion. The attempt failed but they were given a second chance due to a pass interference interfer-ence penalty against Wasatch. The Utes failed to convert, and had to settle for six points leading lead-ing to a 27 - 28 loss. The Utes fall to 3 - 4 overall and I - 2 in region play. Utes pu weather a Uintah's girls soccer has put last week's defeat to Park City behind as they travel to Heber this week for the first round of the region playoff. Uintah's varsity was defeated 6-1 last week, with Uintah's goal coming on a kick by Uintah halfback, Kelsey Peltier. The shot from about 30 yards out, caught the Park City goalie off guard.
