This is the best time of the jear to catch brown trout BIG SAND WASH RESERVOIR (Oct 10) Slow to fair fishing, water 3 on 3 volleyball to begin The Uintah Recreation District is now taking registrations for its 3 on 3 Volleyball League. This league is open to men and women 16 years and over with teams being made up of any combination combi-nation of male and female players. Games will be played on Tuesday evenings at the Vernal Middle School gym. Registration cost is $75 per team. There will be a limited limit-ed number of teams and will be taken on a first come basis. Registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 2. Play will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 13. BROUGH RESERVOIR (Oct 10) Scattered reports of fair to good fishing for rainbows and small bass. B rough has a Urge population of stunted bass and a small population of fair-sized rainbows. To get to B rough, take State Route 88 south from US Route 40 (Ouray Road). Turn west at the second dirt road past the high power lines. Follow this road approximately two miles staying to the left at each fork. Road is quite rutted. The reservoir will be treated within the next couple cou-ple of weeks. BROWNIE (Oct 10) Reports of good fishing, mostly fur smaller fish at Browne. Anglers mostly hunters taking a break. Rains have made the area muddy. C ALDER CROUSE RESERVOIRS RESER-VOIRS (Oct 10) Reports of good fishing. Moderate to light angler pressure. Muddy road conditions at tune of report CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR (Oct 10) Reports of good fishing on the reservoir and streams. Muddy roads at time of report. Remember, access can change quickly depending oa storms. FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR (Oct 10) Fair to good rainbow rain-bow trout fishing in the Canyon area of the reservoir, and shore fishing fish-ing will improve as the water cools. Koianee fishing spotty, with the Wyoming ponion of the reserVoir closed to kokanee harvest Oct 1 through Nov.7. Try small fluorescent fluores-cent lures and spoons behind a downrigger at 35 to 55 foot depths, with or without a flasher or popgear. Smallmouth bass are becoming less active, however fish can still be caught off rocky points and ledges in 20 feet of water. Spotty for lake trout, although fish are beginning to concentrate in Linwood Bay. Other good areas to try include Antelope Flats, Sheep Creek, Mustang, J antes and Anvil Draw. Target 70-100 foot depths using jigs oa the bottom; or troll flatfish, rapalas, flashersquid, or popgearminnow combos behind a downrigger or on the bottom with steel line. 'NOTE A printing error in the 2001 Fishing Proclamation lists the lake trout portion of the troutsalmon limit as three rather than four fish. The lake trout limit increased last year from three to four fish, only one over 28 inches. There are many small to medium sized lake trout in Flaming Gorge, so please take advantage of the regulation reg-ulation change and harvest a few. GREEN RIVER (upper) (Oct 10) Flows are 800 cfs with no fluctuation, fluctua-tion, and should remain at that level through falL Baetis and caddis hatches are providing surface opportunities, and nymph fishing will improve as fall progresses. Terrestrial patterns including hoppers, hop-pers, cicadas, beetles and ants have been effective. One good technique is dropping a midge or nymph pattern pat-tern below a large attractor dry fly. Effective nymph patterns include simple or beadhead midge, size 20-24; 20-24; RS IL WD 40, or pheasant tails, size 16-20; and olive, orange, tan or pink scuds, size 10-14. For streamer fishing, try brown, tan or olive wooly buggers, size 2-6. Spin fishermen fish-ermen should try small rapalas; spinners; black, brown or olive marabou jigs; and tube jigs. GREEN RIVER (lower) - (Oct 10) River levels down. Reports of anglers catching catfish up to five pounds. Try fishing the eddylines (where the faster, main current waters intersect inlets and backwaters), backwa-ters), pools below cobble runs and the slower, deeper pools for catfish. Try casting worms, stink baits, dead minnows, or commercial catfish baits into the currant, allow hook to drift through the eddy line and settle set-tle on the bottom. MATT WARNER RESERVOIR -(Oct 10) Reports of good fishing, light to moderate angler pressure on weekdays and heavier pressure over weekends. Fishing success picked up with cooler weather. Roads were muddy at time of report PELICAN LAKE - (Oct 10) Fair to good fishing for bass and bluegill. Fish have moved into the deeper water or in the deeper holes between the reeds. Heavier angler pressure on weekends. Bluegill have a 10 fish limit in Pelican. Water level is low but still a few feet above conservation pool. Boats still being launched. RED FLEET RESERVOIR - (Oct 10) Reports of fair to good fishing for rainbows, bluegill and large-mouth large-mouth bass. Fish are being taken from shore and boats. Try floating a worm or powerbait a foot or two above the bottom for trout Bluegill and bass anglers reporting them in and about the cliffs, rocks, and submerged sub-merged vegetation with some schools of bluegill out in the deeper waters. STELNAKER RESERVOIR -(Oct 10) Reports of fair to good fishing for bass and trout Albino rainbows were stocked along with other rainbows into the reservoir this summer. Except for coloration, these fish are the same as the other rainbow and not diseased. For trout, fish during the cooler hours and try floating a worm or powerbait a foot or two above the bottom. Other successful suc-cessful methods are to suspend a worm from a bubble. Minnow and crayfish imitations working for bass as well as top-water lures. Fish in or over structure both on the top and down to 23 feet UINTA MOUNTAIN LAKES AND STREAMS (Oct 10) Reports of good to excellent fishing on many of the high Uinta Mountain lakes and streams. High elevation mountain lakes tend to be spotty' fishing so try a variety of flies, lures or baits.
