Show 18 Vernal Express Wednesday, October 21, 1998 Great Pumpkin Festival o be held in Jensen On Friday, Oct 30 pumpkin displays dis-plays may he set up anytime between be-tween 1 1 a.m. and 4 p.m. Come and join the fun. Costumes are welcome, wel-come, but be sure to dress warmly. The Jensen Park pavilion is on the north side of Highway 40 just west of the LDS Church. Plenty of parking park-ing is available. Expect to see hundreds of glow ing pumpkins, favorite storybook characters, dinosaurs, witches and traditional Jack-O-Lanterns! Free refreshments will be served. A bonfire bon-fire and toasted marshniallows will complete the evening. Jensen Park will become a glowing glow-ing spectacle. Families, individuals, clubs, school groups and businesses are. all welcome to bring their favorite fa-vorite pumpkins. Pumpkins may be carved, painted, or dressed up for the occasion. Pick a theme and let the imagination run wild! There is no charge either to create a display or to come look and wander through the pumpkins. A fun, safe Halloween activity for the entire community will be held at Jensen Park, Oct. 30 from 5-8 p.m. Students in Mrs. Jones' class at Discovery hold up posters that Roy Freestone has created for Halloween. Holding up posters: Ashley Raven, De Lynn Barnes, Jaimee Winters, Beau Baker, Christina Peters, Trevor Batty and Justin Halbert. EKlaSloween celebrated with frightful posters Roy Freestone, a renowned artist from Vernal, is donating his time and talents to delighting students at Discovery Hlementary with wit and humor shown in his posters of Halloween antics. His malformed monstrosities, "hosts, goblins and humorous J;ick-o-lanterns will turn any kid's head during this holiday. Freestone donated a painting, "Sunrise Horn" to the school to be hung near the library. Freestone targeted tar-geted Discovery as the first school in many to make the holiday season special for all children in the Basin. He is willing to come to the schools and help out art students or in the capacity of getting all the kids involved in-volved with Halloween spirit. "For the past 30 years I go all out for Halloween," said Freestone. "Each year I have hundreds of people peo-ple coming by to visit the tree house that I decorate. Freestone, an artist since 1970, has done over 300 paintings; has drawn cartoons for the Vernal Express since 1980 and has created approximately 936 cartoons. "Being retired has afforded me more time to spend with the kids," said Freestone. "I love going around to the different schools, being with the kids and having time to come up with new ideas." Mrs. Terrell, choir teacher at Vernal Middle School, and her 6th grade choir students will perform a concert con-cert Oct. 22, 7 p.m. at the school. Three choirs, one from each team, will sing a variety of songs including includ-ing ones in Hebrew and Swahili. Different styles will be performed from rap to classical to spiritual and jazz.
