Show 20 Vernal Express Wednesday, August 23, 1995 Lady Utes Continued from page 18 on a Ruth Richards comer kick which Miller converted into a header head-er goal. The only downside to the contest was the loss of star player Katrina Dart to an ankle injury. The second half featured tough defensive play up the middle. Boih teams scored one goal for the 4-1 final. fi-nal. Uintah's goal came on an unassisted unas-sisted score by Becky Warburton, her second of the game. The team traveled to East High School last Friday to take on perennial peren-nial powerhouse East and if they had any swollen head syndromes from Thursday's game, the problem was quickly taken care of. Playing without Dart and Janellc Moon, Uintah was hard-pressed to get any offensive threats mounted. East, on the other hand, was almost unstoppable. "They are the most talented tal-ented girl's team I have ever played against," Shafer said. "Every one of their girls was big, strong and extremely ex-tremely quick. They could have scored more often if they had really needed to." East built a 4-0 halftime lead and eventually settled for a 6-0 victory, .-4 'Ox r V n 19 ill 'I 1 v 4 This Lady Ute player executes a good 'chest catch' to control kicked ball and get the offense moving down the field. A GOOD NEWSPAPER AD WILL HIT YOU RIGHT SMACK BETWEEN THE EYES A good newspaper ad is an awesome thing. It will jump off the page and grab you. It will pique your interest and draw you in. Then, once you're in its grip, it will provide needed information. You can even save it. . Right now, your attention is focused oh this ad and the points it makes about newspaper advertising. But we could just as easily be selling cars or cornbread mix. Or your company's products and services. When people turn to their paper they turn there with interest. Which means that's where your advertising message needs to be. With all the choices available, it's difficult deciding how best to advertise your business. But everything becomes a little simpler when you remember one rule. m 'mf 11.11 L - V 1 CiOinriV 1W 1 mm mm IX Lady Ute sophemore midfielder Dede Chivers hustles past Pleasant Grove player to control ball. would have been much higher if not for the inspired play of goal keeper Mara Reynolds. "Mara not only hustled throughout the entire contest, con-test, several times she tricked East into taking bad shots or changing their shots at the last second." The coach also had words of praise for the defensive play of Brooke Batty and Ruth Richards, who gave a tough effort in the middle mid-dle of the field. The loss evened the team's record to 1-1 heading into their next contest con-test with Wasatch this Thursday, Aug. 24 at the Middle School field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. The team will travel to Provo Aug. 29 to take on Snow Canyon after both schools agreed to meet halfway. One minute you're riding along a quiet meadow, the next you're barreling down this steep grade. Trails Continued from Page 18 rock, with the main openingentrance of the cave looming above. This time of the year (early fall) and during the spring are perfect for making this ride. The drive from Vernal is a scenic and relatively short 12 hour. Take the Sheep Creek turn off of 191 and follow just past the Ute Mountain turnoff. most of the ride (over half) will be downhill or flat. This is another loop with little drinkable water or shade, so bring plenty of liquid. The grade is steep and challenging but well worth the time and effort. What to bring along on your hike, bike ride or any sustained outdoor venture. For a temperate weather ride, you will need shoes good for walking as well as riding, gloves, shorts, T-shirt, T-shirt, windshirt, a sun hat or visor, sunglasses, sunscreen, water (two bike bottles plus a reserve bottle), non-crushable high energy food, map, first-aid kit, tire pump, bike repair tools and a fanny pack or bike bag to carry your gear. In cooler weather, polypropylene underwear or riding tights, a sweater, knitted earband, and a rain shell should be considered. Helmets are strongly recommended. Precautions If you have an accident in a remote area, it may take medical help hours to arrive. Travel with a group so that someone can be sent to obtain help and another rider can administer first aid. On a hot day, you will want to carry more water thin your frame-mounted bottles will hold. Carry a large refill bottle on your rack. If your bike breaks down, it can be a long push back to town. Carry appropriate tools and know how to repair your bike. , Minimum Impact i As more people discover the recreational opportunities in the area, additional pressures are put upon the land. Please practice minimum impact riding by staying on established trails and roads. GLIDE TM byWESLO Sold on TV and in Stores for'19995 Call...
