Pye Sports Writer The 1995 cross country pre-sea-son has been a strange one for coaches Marland Stagg, Gary Galley and Sherrick Peck. The one constant has been the performance of last Friday's Green River qualifier qualifi-er winner Mike Jackson. "Mike has really begun to assert himself. He's working much harder this year and it's showing, not only as a runner, but as a team leader too," head coach Marland Stagg said. Coach Stagg went on to explain ex-plain this has been a challenging summer for the team due to inconsistent incon-sistent numbers. "Some days we would have eight runners show up and other days 20 would come. It was difficult establishing a workout routine due to absences." As up and down as the boy's team has been, it's been smooth compared com-pared to the girls. "I don't know what it is about the girls, but we never get the numbers out until just before or during the startup of school. Most of the summer we had between 3-5 girls running. But in the last two weeks we have picked up another five or so three today (Tuesday) and now our numbers are looking pretty good," Coach Stagg explained. As of Tuesday, there were 35 athletes out for the sport. Just like Jackson, the girl's team has had two consistent and dedicated dedicat-ed performances from Carrie Barlow and Andrea Whiting. Friday, the two ended the three mile course in a final sprint to the finish line, with Barlow edging Whiting COED Softball Tournament The Uintah Recreation Association will be sponsoring a COED Softball Tournament Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26.
