Show Obituaries Families needed for cultural exchange for "Up With People" cast Vernal Express Wednesday, August 18, 1993 3 Historical board to meet in Vernal MHHMMIMPMNMMIwaMM John Christiansen Christiansen I services held J Wendall John Christiansen, 54, died of cancer at Ashley Valley Medical Center on August 14, 1993. ; He was born on April 30, 1939 in . Mayfield to Reed Smoot and Aleda Michaelsen Christiansen. He mar-' mar-' ried Donna June Jenkins on Dec. 22, 1972 in the Provo LDS Temple. Christiansen worked as a teacher at Uintah High and Jr. High Schools and as an interior decorator. He was an active member of the LDS ' church and served in the bishopric. At the time of his death he was a counselor to the high priest group leader. He was a former member of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce and the Vernal Lions Club. He was co-owner of Christiansen Window Fashions and also helped his children chil-dren start J.C. Screening. He enjoyed en-joyed making quilts, drawing, shopping, shop-ping, building and interior decorating. decorat-ing. He was a former employee of A & L Home Furnishing and the Furniture House co-owner. He is preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick Lee Christiansen and his father. He is survived by his wife of Vernal; sons and daughter, Nathan Sean, serving a LDS mission in Brazil, Jacob Reed, Kirsten Marie, Erick Lars, B J., and Maran Ann, all of Vernal; mother, Mayfield; brother, broth-er, Paul Reed Christiansen of Payson and sister Mrs. Redge (Karalyn) Hermansen of Gunnison. Services were held Tuesday, August 17 at the Vernal 8th Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Mayfield City Cemetery. The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB) will meet with the Vernal Historical Society in Vernal on Saturday, September 11. The Board will hear public concerns con-cerns about conditions, access, and use of historical records in Utah. The public meeting will be held at the Golden Age Center, at 2:00 p.m. Also on the agenda of the September 11 meeting is a presentation presenta-tion by Kerry W. Bate. By profession, profes-sion, Mr. Bate serves as Housing Development Manager for the Division of Community Development Mr. Bate's avocation, however, is historical research, writing, and speaking. His topic will be "Kanarraville Fights World War I." The address is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Persons interested in Utah history and historical records are invited to attend. Julie Fagin and Marjolein Witteman have their woik cut out for them over the next two weeks; to find homes in Vernal for approximately approxi-mately 150 members of the 1993-1994 1993-1994 "Up With People" cast. The students will arrive Monday afternoon, after-noon, Aug. 30 and leave Thursday morning, Sept. 2. Host families are being sought. Members of the cast hail from over 20 different countries and all of the 50 United States. Most of them are multi-lingual, however, if there is a communication problem, a "buddy" will be placed to assist host family with any communication needs. The host family will need to provide pro-vide three breakfast and two dinner meals to the students and transportation trans-portation to and from Uintah High School during their stay. Their practices prac-tices will not conflict with normal business hours. "We are looking for families open to different cultures," said Miss Witteman. "Being a host family will be a great way or people to start the school year off with a bang," Miss Fagin added. Currently the two young women are speaking to Vernal 's civic organizations orga-nizations to set up families. They hope to have all the host families set by Aug. 23, just three days before a host family meeting. More than one student can be requested per host family. The show will be Wednesday evening, Sept. 1 at Uintah High School. A matinee will be presented Wednesday afternoon to UHS students. Tickets are available avail-able at both IGA stores, Music Music and Bitter Creek Books. The group will also be sponsoring a coloring col-oring contest for children. The group is sponsored by the Uintah Arts Council and will be performing in Vernal on Sept. 1 at Uintah High School. I - s - I NickiCook Cook dies at home Nicki Lee Cook, 7, died at home on August 15, 1993. She was born March 1, 1986 in Rangely, Colo, to Shane Darvel and Viola M. Gallegos Cook. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Joe and Ignacia Gallegos. She is survived by her mother and father; sisters and brother Dixie, Shawna and Levi Cook, all of Vernal; grandparents, Darvel and Verla Cook of Vernal and great-grandparents, great-grandparents, Emil and Marcela Hadlock of Vernal. Services will be held Thursday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at the Maescr Stake Center. Friends may call at Thomson's Vernal. Mortuary, Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m..
