Madsen listed with outstanding women Kim Ellis Madsen, an active member of the local community, will be listed as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America. Now in its 21st year, the program is designed to honor and encourage young women between the ages of 21 and 36 who have distinguished themselves in their homes, professions profes-sions and their communities. Those who are listed in the annual awards publication receive a copy of the volume. In addition, they are considered con-sidered as one of the 51 state winners who are narrowed to a field of ten national na-tional winners honored at an annual awards luncheon that takes place in Washington, D.C., in January. Kim graduated from Viewmont High School in Bountiful, Utah and attended University of Utah for two years with a major in modern dance. She studied under an Elizabeth R. Hayes performing dance scholarship. scholar-ship. Her parents are Donald J. and Lu-Dean Lu-Dean Ellis of Bountiful. She is married mar-ried to David J. Madsen and they have two children; Christine, 7, and Joshua, 5. She opened a dance studio, The Dance Euphorium, where she taught creative dance for children and aerobic exercise. Kim was also aerobic manager for Rainbow Rain-bow Nautilus. She now teaches at Body Works Aerobics and Wellness Center which is owned by Jannine Smith. After two years, she closed her dance studio and began teaching Sunshine Sun-shine Generation. She currently has over 80 children in the performing group. Active in the community, she lectures lec-tures on exercise and aerobic fitness; served as the Utah Fitness Instruction Instruc-tion Association vice president of public relations; worked with the Chamber of Commerce on Christmas programs, in July celebrations and others. Kim is an active member of the LDS Church and has served in several of their organizations. She has been involved in Utah State University theater productions such as doing choreography for "South Pacific," and took the role of Jeannie in "Brigadoon." She also did the choreography for several musicals on the Wasatch Front. ZHTHlHf ; Mothers of Tw ns Mothers ot iwms cr ' Mothers of Twins Club met on May 8 at the 7-11 Cafe for Mom's Night Out. A dinner was served prior to the club business meeting where officers for the 1986-87 season were elected. New officers are Laura Whittington, president; Kindra LeClair, vice president presi-dent and Marie Carroll, secretary-treasurer. secretary-treasurer. Laura Whittington, club president for 1985-86 was presented with a charm bracelet in appreciation for a job well done. A special presentation was given to honor Zellene Allred who got the Twins Club started in the Uintah Basin in 1982. She gave a brief history of the club's beginnings. The presentation was given by Sherry Gines. Ladies Petroleum Ladies petroleum meeting was held May 7 with Gerri Voyles, president, presiding. Twenty members and two guests were in attendance, Liz Freitas of the SPE and Marcie Moles. Four senior girls that applied for the annual scholarship spoke briefly to the members, followed by questions to the girls. The girls were LaraLee Palmer, Glenda Gardiner, Loretta Herrmann and Suzanne Slaugh. The recipient of the scholarship.will be announced at the Uintah High School Awards Assembly on May 28. An installation ceremony was presented by Linda Pittsenbarger with Gerry Voyles, out-going president, assisting. Officers for the new year are Gerry Staley, president; Melanie Morrison, Mor-rison, vice president; Lynnette Ray, secretary; Lorraine McDonald, treasurer and Mary Stringham, parliamentarian. Board members are Marge Collier and Wanda Slaley. Last minute preparations were made for Petroleum Days to be held at the Dinaland Country Club on May 16 and 17. The Gin Tournament will be held on May 17. This is open to the public. Anyone interested in playing may sign up by calling 789 0398, 785756 or 789-2flJ8. She is the mother of 2-year-old boy-girl twins, Christopher Michael and Kristina Rae. She also has a 4 month old daughter, Kelly. Laura and husband, Mike, have lived liv-ed in Vernal lk years and say they enjoy en-joy it very much. Laura enjoys reading, camping, looking for ghost towns and most of all, her family. The spotlight mother for April is Mary Paz. She is the mother of 7-month-old twin girls, Crystal Marie and Haley Melissa. Mary and her husband, hus-band, Marcelo, currently make their home in Vernal, but are awaiting news of a possible transfer. Mary enjoys sewing, embroidery and all types of craft projects. She also did some backpacking prior to the twins arrival. Mary is a native Vernal resident. Progressive Arts Sixteen members of the Progressive Arts Club met at the home of Veda Hatch May 7. Co-hostess for the evening even-ing was Afton Fletcher. Annette Hatch was a special guest and presented a program of music and song. Business of the meeting was conducted con-ducted by President Lois Erickson. Completion of the 1985-86 service projects pro-jects were discussed. The closing party for the summer will be held at the home of Erva Bowden on May 20. Dinah Dancers The 23rd Big U festival will be this wet'kend. May 16 and 17. The festivities will begin on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Vernal Junior High gym. Fred Brown will be calling square dancing. Russ and Micki Francis Fran-cis will be calling rounds. Saturday's festivities will brpin at 2 p m. with a square dance workshop callid by Scott Smith. There will be a meal at 4; IS p m. following the dance. Evenltitf dancing will begin at 8 p m. Golden Age . Activities By Maxine Clark We were entertained on Monday with a lovely program by the 2nd grade students from Ashley Elementary. Elemen-tary. They entertained with songs, harmonica playing and violin solos. Kathleen Williams played the violin, accompanied by her mother, Bonnie Williams. Philip Davis also played the violin. Deon Price accompanied the students on the guitar. She teaches this class the harmonica. This is Jackie Wilkins class. We want to thank you both for bringing us this program. Edna Soltis read a poem to us at lunch Monday. Thanks Edna. The winners at bingo on Tuesday were Lena Mast and Lorna Holmes with four games each. Tied for second place were Alice Mott, Evelyn Shcffer, Mildred Long and Evelyn Crenshaw, with three games each. Amy Pope came after lunch on Monday Mon-day with Information on the tax rebate. Sixteen members were present and one guest, Evelyn Crenshaw. Reports and business was conducted and the highlight of the evening was Interim Reverend, Brad Skinner and his wife, Billie, showing slides of their trip to Russia. A potluck dinner was served. The next meeting will be held May 21 at 1:30 p.m. and the guest speaker will be Sheriff Ardcn Stewart.
