"If you had turned your back, you would have thought you were listening listen-ing to the Utah Symphony," said a member of the audience at a family music concert given Saturday at the Vernal Junior High- Middle School. The Uintah Basin Orchestra which has been performing for USU Extension Exten-sion College Theater Arts musical productions and many other occasions, occa-sions, showed such a great improvement improve-ment under the direction of George Rosenburg, that many were wondering wonder-ing if they were the same group. Uintah Arts Council brought professional pro-fessional musican George Rosenberg and singer Lynn Rubel to Vernal for the concert, and as teachers at educational assemblies for students in the district. The multi-talented dub have exceptional excep-tional audience appeal and apparently, apparent-ly, outstanding teaching ability as well. The orchestra is made up of musicians of all ages and a wide variety of backgrounds. As conductor, conduc-tor, Rosenburg achieved a cohesive blend among the group that had not been accomplished before. Saturday's concert began with a number of classical selections by the orchestra, Rubel singing and Rosenberg at the piano. Many felt the second half was most enjoyable as popular songs and audience particpa-tion particpa-tion was stepped up by the musicians. Locals like Wayne Millett were brought into the performance, some, totally impromptu. "It has been a struggle to interest people of the Uintah Basin in concerts con-certs of this type," said one member of the Arts Council, "but we plan to continue con-tinue bringing this type of entertainment entertain-ment to the people here." Rosenberg said he was surprised and pleased to find such a pool of talented musicians in a "remote" area. He has consented to return to Vernal for a small fee and continue to work with the orchestra. His feeling is that everyday, ordinary people should all have the opportunity to develop their musical talent. o BHD tPfl M SCO Odd lots, broken sizes, hundreds of winter items to choose from.
