Poulsen is part of a six member Victim Witness Task Force. The task force in Utah is made up of employees from sheriffs' offices across the state. The task force was formed in late 1984 at the the request of the National Sheriff's Association (NSA). As of October, over 37 task forces have formed. It is the goal of the NSA to involve all 50 states in the program. The convention is co-sponsored by the NSA and the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crimes. Several guest speakers are expected to attend the convention. Members of the task force will also be attending workshops and training seminars to aid them in assisting victims of. crime. One of the goals of the task force is to increase the rights of the victim. Recently crime victims have been the focus of national and statewide attention because victims are requesting re-questing more involved in the criminal proceedings regarding their individual cases. Crime victims have suggested that a witness notification program be adopted. The program would keep victims informed on the legal proceedings pro-ceedings involving their cases, including in-cluding all court dates. Under the program victims would be notified on continuances or delays in their cases. Poulsen will be representing Duchesne, Daggett, Uintah, Wasatch, and Carbon counties at the convention. A statewide convention has tentatively ten-tatively been planned for April. The state convention, is sponsored by the Utah Sheriff's Association and the Council for Criminal and Juvenile Justice. The group is trying to schedule Theresa Saldena as the main speaker. Saldena portrayed herself in the television movie "Victims for Victims." Saldena was the victim of a vicious attack after staring in the feature film, "Raging Bull."
