The Utes host Orem Saturday. The Affordable System 95 Channels lb Choose From 6, AUU Athti The Uintah Utes lost both games in a doubleheader against Bex Elder, but they provided plenty of excitement that delighted the fans in two innings, the first and fifth. David Gurr, the wrestler and not the basketball player, singled for the Utes in the bottom of the first inning and scored on a double by Darin Nelson to give the Uintah Utes a 1-0 lead in the first game against Box Elder. The Utes were hoping and wishing for more runs, but disaster struck in the exciting and heart pounding first inning. A suicide squeeze was called for, but the man at the plate missed on his hitting the ball attempt and Nelson was nailed at home plate for an out. Gary Swim ripped the baseball and circled the bases and crossed home plate for what he thought was an inside the park home run and a 2-0 lead, but instead he was given a single and called call-ed out as the umpire on the bases said that Swim didn't touch second base. Uintah lost its 1-0 lead and found itself behind by five runs after 4 innings. in-nings. The Utes were hoping for a big inning and they got it in the fifth inning inn-ing as they scored four runs to cut the Bee lead to one run at 6-5. There were many heroes for the Utes in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brian Smuin reached first base on an error and Nelson turned in an excellent ex-cellent sacrifice bunt to move Smuin to second base. An error put Swim on first base and Smuin crossed home plate. Kurt Robb came through with a mighty shot for a double and knocked knock-ed in Swim. Sean Sullivan fhed out, but Brad Richens came through with a single and scored Robb. David Wood was put in the game as a pinch hitter and he delivered as he ripped a hot smash down the right field line, which consisted of chalk flying action. Richens was running on the pitch and kept on going and won the smashing battle for home plate and cut the Box Elder lead to one run. However, Box Elder scored one more run and won the game by the score of 7-5. Uintah had seven runs scored against them in the game with Box Elder, but their pitchers shined at times in the first game. Mike Robbins started for the Uintah Utes and pitched pitch-ed 6 innings. He struck out six batters bat-ters in the contest and his best inning was fifth inning when he got the first batter to fly out and struck out the final two batters for a one, two, three inning. Relief pitcher, Brad Richens came in and replaced Robbins with one out in the top of the seventh inning and Richens shut down the Bees in the rest of the inning as he whiffed Lyons and got Nielsen to hit into a forced out. The Uintah Utes' offense shined in the first ball game with Box Elder Friday Fri-day as 15 Utes got on the base paths. The Utes had seven hits in the game. Darin Nelson and Kurt Robb had doubles and Gurr, Swim, Wayne Hansen, Wood and Richens ripped out singles. Ryan Siddoway, Joe LeBeau, Mike Robbins and Robb got on base on walks. Hansen, Swim and Brian Smuin reached first base on errors and Richens became a base runner when he beat out a throw to first base for a double play and gained a fielder's choice. Uintah cut down enemy runners on their way to second base in the games with Box Elder on perfect throws from catchers, Darin Nelson and Sean Sullivan to their second basemen. The Utes had four base runners in the second game with Box Elder, but all four encountered tough luck on the diamond. Nelson singled with one out in first inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Swim, but was stranded when a mighty shot by Robb was caught on a good run by a Box Elder inf ielder in the outfield and thus a base hit was robbed from Robb. Sullivan led off with a walk in the bottom bot-tom of the fifth inning. However, he was tagged out at second base on a i w? - ' W 2 ill f pin Wwv Jr4 W IL , (f 'I. . '' 4 v"'rv.i,t stealing attempt. Brian Smuin was the first batter up in the bottom of the sixth inning and he came through with a single. However, he was also called out at second base on a stealing attempt. at-tempt. Robb was walked in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Utes, but was picked off at first base on a close play for an out. Repeat to yourself.. .It's only a ball . game, it's only a ball game, it's only a ball game, it's only a ball game! A ball game is a fun activity and people should learn to make it fun instead of a war. Some fans and some athletes take the game too seriously and that is sad. Sporting events should be a time when people make new friends and have a good time watching the activity. activi-ty. It shouldn't be an "I Hate Your Guts" event. Let's all join hands and work together to make sports a fun thing where people behave themselves on and off the court. I have one suggestion: sug-gestion: if teams don't want to play by the rules and keep from fighting during dur-ing and after the game, then kick them out of the league.
