A four run seventh inning by Box Elder turned a close game into a not-so-close game as the Uintah Utes were defeated 8-0 in the second game of a doubleheader with the Bees Friday in Vernal. Williams grounded out, but Stokes was walked. Stokes stole second, but Tuft struck out. Richards was walked, but Glenn Murray got out of a jam when he blazed a pitch by Thompson for a strike out and the third out in the top of the first inning. David Gurr flied out, but Darin Nelson ripped the baseball for a single. A sacrifice bunt by Gary Swim advanced ad-vanced Nelson to second base, but Kurt Robb flied out for the third out on a long run by a Box Elder infielder. Widdison led off with a single in the top of the second inning, but Reeder hit into a double play, Siddoway to Nelson at first base, for out number two. Lyons flied out to end the inning. The Utes were also blanked in their half of the second inning as Sean Sullivan was whiffed, Brad Richens flied out and Wayne Hansen struck out. Box Elder put the first run in the score book on one counter by Williams in the top of the third inning. Morgan grounded out, but Williams singled. A passed ball took place and the catcher had problems finding the ball, which resulted in Williams moving from first to third base. Tuft singled in Williams with a 1-0 lead, but Tuft was cut down at second base on an excellent throw from catcher Sullivan to second base man, Ryan Siddoway. Once again the Utes were retired in order as Sid-, doway struck out and Murray and Gurr hit fly ball outs in the bottom of the third inning. The Bees struck for one run in the top of the fourth inning to increase their lead to two runs at 2-0. Richards singled singl-ed and Thompson flew out. A base hit by Widdison dropped in front of a Uintah Uin-tah outfielder and a poor throw enabled enabl-ed Richards to advance to third base. Reeder got on base on a fielder's choice. Price grounded out and Richards scored to give his team a 2-0 lead. Lyons struck out for the third out. Price and Lyons batted out of order, but nobody missed the mistake in time and thus the second run counted. The Utes were blanked in the bottom of the fourth inning as Nelson flew out and Swim and Robb grounded out. Box Elder scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead over the Uintah Utes. Williams was walked, but was forced out at second base. Stokes reached first on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a passed ball. A double by Tuft drove in Stokes with a 3-0 lead. Kurt Robb replaced Murray on the mound and Richards struck out. Thompson blasted a shot into centerfield, which Swim was unable to come up with. Thompson motored to third base and headed for home. However, a perfect series of throws from Swim to Smuin and from Smuin to Sullivan got Thompson for the third and final out at home plate. However, Tuft scored just before the out action at home plate to give Box Elder a 4-0 lead. Sullivan led off with a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning, but he was tagged out at second base on a stealing attempt. The next two batters struck out. Widdison and Reeder committed the first two outs in the top of the sixth inning, in-ning, but Nielsen was walked. Price flew out for the final out. Smuin led off in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Uintah Utes with a single. Robbins struck out and Smuin was forced out at second base. Gurr reached first base when the attempt at gaining a double play failed. Nelson grounded out to end the inning. Four more runs in the top of the seventh inning put the Bees ahead by eight runs at 8-0. Dunn and Stokes were walked and Tuft reached first on an error to load up the bases. A double dou-ble by Richards knocked in Dunn and Stokes with a 6-0 lead. Thompson turned turn-ed in a perfect sacrifice bunt on a suicide squeeze and Tuft scored Box Elder's seventh run. Reeder singled in Richards to make the score 8-0. Nielson was walked and Wayne Hansen retired Price on a ground out. Swim struck out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Robb was walked. However, Robb was picked off first base for the second out and LeBeau was whiffed to make the final score: Box Elder, 8 and Uintah, 0.
