Woodhouse's brother, Morgan Woodhouse, was a two-time state champ at Uintah. ' point near fall in the second round gave Smith a 7-0 lead. "I had a reverse half for near fall points in the second round," said Smith. "I was trying to get an arm bar in and kept working for the pin." The Orem Tigers cut Uintah's lead to 14 points at 26-12 and were still alive in the victory chase, but Uintah's Kary McNeill, 145 and Gary Murray, 155, won their matches to put the win safely safe-ly in the pockets of the Utes. Orem fans had something to cheer about in the early moments of the 145 pound match as Trent Ricks downed Uintah's McNeill for a takedown in the first round. However, McNeill destroyed the Tigers' bright hopes when he reversed Ricks in the first round and gained a near fall for a 4-2 lead. McNeill added a reversal and two-point near fall in the third round for a six point win. McNeill outscored Ricks, 8-0 after losing the battle for the takedown in the first round. "I got a reversal on Ricks in the first round on a switch. I got an arm bar on him for a two-point near fall and a 4-2 lead after one round," stated McNeill. "I turned him with an arm bar in the last round for a near fall." The victory was signed, sealed and delivered to the Uintah Utes over Orem when Gary Murray crushed Mark DePalma, 11 to 2, in the 155 pound battle. Murray pocketed a three-point near fall in the third round. "I was going with a half nelson for a pin and I settled for a three-point near fall," commented Murray. "I turned him in the middle of the match with an arm bar and a figure four for near fall points. I shot an arm bar and ran around. I stepped over his head and figure foured it." ' When asked to comment on the victory vic-tory over Orem, Uintah High School head wrestling coach Ed Johnson remarked, "It was a good match. We looked excellent in quite a few spots. We still need more bottom motion. We were aggressive in quite a few situations, situa-tions, but we have a lot of work to do. Our January schedule will be tougher than our schedule so far." Orem beat Pleasant Grove in a dual meet, 33-23. 6, AUak "RmUU Orem gained a 6-0 lead in a varsity meet with Uintah, but the Utes killed the Tiger hopes for a triumph with eight wins in the next eleven matches to place the Utes in the victory column by the score of 39 to 22, Thursday. A forfeit win by Ryan Siddoway at 105 pounds tied up the contest at 6-6, but a pin by Uintah Ute Nick Snyder at 112 pounds gave the Utes their first lead of the meet at 12-6. Snyder pinned pinn-ed Oily Russell with 37 seconds left in the first round. "I was working on a corkscrew hold and then I chinned him and put him down for the pin," stated Snyder. "I just kept putting pressure on him. It took a while, but I got the pin." The Uintah Utes garnered their third straight win when Craig Funk, 119, pinned John Engle with 1:18 left in the second round. The pin by Funk gave the Utes an 18-6 lead. "I pinned him with a double arm bar. I pushed him forward and just slapped him with the double arm bar and put the pressure on for the pin," said Funk. Uintah High School 126 pounder, Joe Newell didn't gain a pin in his match against John Childs of Orem, but a pin wasn't the most important item as a win was number one and that's what Newell got as he bombed his opponent, 23 to 0. Newell grabbed a 7-0 lead in the first round and was ahead 12-0 after two rounds. He scored 11 points in the third round for a 23-0 win. Newell snared seven near falls in his match with Childs. Newell gained a takedown and his first near fall in the match in a very unusual fashion as he dropped his mat-man mat-man to the mat and then jumped on top of him and squeezed his opponent with all of his strength. Newell didn't gain a pin, but he pocketed three points for a near fall. "Once in a while I get in something like that so I just lay on him. It's just one of those predicaments I get into," remarked Newell. "I wrestled him last year In a sophomore tournament. I went with the half every time I could get it in the match." Uintah acquired its fifth straight win on a 9-2 win by 138 pounder Mike Smith over Rick Dowcll. Smith's win gave the Uintah Utes a 26 6 lead. A three- Alumni meet scheduled Uintah High School will host its first annual alumni wrestling meet, Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. The wrestlers will consist of alumni wrestlers from Uintah and other high schools in the nation.
