"I expect as time goes by that we'll all develop individual preferences and beliefs." According to Clyde, eastsiders are generally satisfied with the level of services provided by the county, adding, if anything, they complain county government has grown too large. Those living on the West Side, however, are more demanding, he adds. Richer led the charge in support of the ballot proposition. Votere opt to study change Though called by some the "myth of the rift," election results Nov. 2 showed the philosophical divide between the West and East Sides of Summit County widening. West Side voters differ significantly from their East Side counterparts on whether a committee should have been formed to study expanding the current three-member Summit County Commission. Proposition No. 1 passed with overwhelming support from westsiders, however, had North and South Summit voters had their way, the measure would have died. Lopsided election results are part of the reason eastsiders should embrace change, said , County Commissioner Bob Richer, one of two westsiders and three Democrats on the current board. Population , in the Snyderville Basin and Park City dwarfs eastern Summit County and high voter turnout on the West Side provides residents there a majority say in local politics. Five men from both sides of Summit County are currently selecting between seven and 11 people to serve on a committee that will study whether the county's form of government should change. At issue is whether the current commission effectively serves the East and West Sides. State law allows more County Commissioners to represent districts, instead of the current at-large representatives. Or should the commission change to a county council, where district or at-large representatives, with legislative powers, hire a manager, or voters elect a mayor as the executive branch? "We're trying very hard to make sure that everybody is represented in the process and that whatever report or recommendations come out of the study committee, that they will appeal to a broad range of constituents," said Park Meadows attorney, Eric Easterly, who is helping to appoint the study committee. "The people on the East Side are perhaps a bit more content with the current structure." Easterly, Woodland resident Tom Clyde, Kamas Mayor Lewis Marchant, North Summit resident Chris Boyer and Jim Barth, a Park City Planning Commissioner are cur- • Live Entertainment Daily During the Holiday Season Taken food off the plate?
