Show Lady Braves beat 'Cats; Vikes dump LHS with 14 points of her own followed by Heather Le Mmon and Mandy Miller with 12 and 6, respectively. For Layton, Lora Peterson and Hilary King tied for high-scoring honors logging 8 each, while Bren-da Bren-da Schofield and Jackie Open sh aw added 6 and 4, respectively. Viewmont jumped to an early 15-8 lead after the first and increased increas-ed it to 18 by the half, 33-15. By the end of the third, the Vikings led by 20, 51-31 and held the margin throughout the remainder of the contest. BOUNTIFUL 66,WX51 BOUNTIFUL Junior Camille Dupaix, held scoreless in the first half, scored the first two baskets of the third quarter and poured in 12 second-half points to lead Bountiful to a 66-51 Region 6 win over Woods Cross Friday afternoon. The victory all but assures the Braves of a state playoff berth, while Woods Cross was probably eliminated from the tournament picture pic-ture with the loss. Both teams played evenly the first half. Bountiful s Nikki Hanni scoring 15 points to help the Braves take a 29-25 lead into the locker room. But the third quarter was all Bountiful, begun when Dupaix scored two quick hoops, Hanni sank a pair of free throws and Kim Reimann tallied to push the lead to 37-25 just two minutes into the second se-cond half. Woods Cross only third-quarter points came on four field goals by all-state candidate Amy Turman, who finished tied with Hanni for game-high scoring honors with 24 points. Meanwhile, Jenny Gardner and Hanni stayed hot throughout the third quarter, and Bountiful led 51-33 entering the final stanza. The Wildcats made a run at Bountiful as the quarter began, Turman sinking a pair from the stripe, Randi Rathmann following with two freebies, and, after Dupaix scored, Turman putting in a rebound re-bound to make it 53-39. But Gardner Gard-ner and Dupaix hit consecutive hoops to lengthen the lead to 57-39 with 5:20 left. Woods Cross made one more run in the final two minutes. Turman made two free throws and Maureen Newland scored to cut the lead to 62-5 1 , and the Wildcats got the ball after a Bountiful turnover. But Woods Cross couldn't capitalize, and two free throws by Reimann and another score by Dupaix rounded round-ed out the scoring. In addition to Hanni's 24 points, three other Braves were in double figures Dupaix and Reimann with 12 each and Gardner with 10. Turman Tur-man 's 24 were supplemented by eight points from Alisa Smith, six by Newland and five by Rathmann. Regular season play finishes next week for both teams. VIEWMONT 60, LAYTON 40 LAYTON The Lady Vikings capped off what coach Ralph Ashby would call a good week knocking off the Lady Layton Lancers 60-40 on the road Friday night. Spurred by center Jen Jones' game-high 17 -points, the Vikes now rest comfortably in second place behind the seemingly unstoppable unstop-pable Weber Warriors. Sannon Morrow backed Jones |
