Show LDS choir salutes troops The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir will offer ' A Salute to the Armed Forces" in its weekly nationwide broadcast of ' 'Music and the Spoken Word ' on Sunday, Feb. 17. The broadcast originates over KSL radio and television at 9:30 a.m. (MST). The public is invited to attend the broadcast broad-cast in the Mormon Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Visitors should be in their seats by 9: 15 a.m., choir officials said. I The world-famed ensemble will sing such stirring favorites as "God Bless America,' ' 'Climb Every Mountain," Moun-tain," "God of Our Fathers" and "Salute to the Armed Forces," which includes the songs of each of the U.S. military services and ends with the chorus of 1 'The Battle I Hymn of the Republic. ' I Dr. Jerold Ottley, musical director of the Tabernacle I Choir, will be at the podium. Dr. Robert Cundick and Dr. John Longhurst, Tabernacle organists, will accompany the 325 singers and also will play a four-hand organ duet, "Stars and Stripes Forever." Armed Forces Radio will broadcast the program direct to servicemen in the Persian Gulf, choir officials said. Musical segments will also be televised by CNN. -4 I |
