Show New zoning ordinance approved By MARK EDDINGTON Staff Writer FARMINGTON Residents with property not conforming to the city zoning laws can be granted variances under a new ordinance passed by the City Council on Wednesday. Under the old zoning ordinance, there was no provision for the review of nonconforming use or granting of variances. "Now when someone owns an old home that doesn't meet city requirements, re-quirements, and they want to add on a bedroom or something, then they can petition the Board of Adjustment Adjust-ment and obtain permission to do that. Before, they just couldn't do that because there was no flexibility in the zoning ordinance," Craig Hinckley, city zoning administrator, said. The new ordinance amends and combines chapters 5 and 37 of the city zoning ordinance, lists and clarifies the duties of the zoning administrator and Board of Adjustment Adjust-ment The new ordinance empowers em-powers the zoning administrator and board of adjustment, among other things, to grant variances to property owners who are not in compliance with the city zoning ordinance. or-dinance.
