Show Chairman "clowns' around By MICHELLE EMERY Hugh Taylor of Bountiful will be in the Days of '47 Parade on July 24, but you might not recognize him since he will be one of the clowns featured in the parade. 'Hugo' Taylor has been involved with the Days of '47 Parade for eight years. This year he is one of the chairmen teaching other clowns the latest techniques in make-up, costumes and acting. Since Taylor has been "clowning" for 25 years, he's probably the one to ask about these things. He has been a member of the Utah Clown Alley since it was founded over 20 years ago and is also a member of Utah Jesters, an affiliate of the Utah Clown Alley. He and his partner, Joe 'Josco' Stegen, have been involved with the Ogden Pioneer Days for 17 years and with the Utah State Fair for 1 0 years. They were featured at Valley Music Hall and have done over 700 shows for ward and civic groups. Taylor describes clowning as very gratifying. "No amount of money would make up for what we've learned from thrs psychologically and spiritually," he said. He started clowning as a young man out of the military. "I bought a unicycle, learned to ride it and put it to use," he said. His costume is red plaid with a red face and his own hair dyed red. He describes himself as "a golfer who can't find his way." So if you go to the parade in Salt Lake on the 24th, keep your eye out for that golfer. |
