But the Braves' foul shooting didn't play a major role in the outcome out-come of the game -not until the last two minutes, at least. Believe it or not, the Wildcats were still in the game midway into the final stanza until they folded like an accordion. accor-dion. In fact, the score was knotted at 60 with six minutes left in the game. But in the final minutes, Woods Cross managed to score only 10 points while the Braves blew the lid off the Wildcats' den with a 30-point outburst. And it happened for two reasons. One, the Wildcats lost their composure com-posure when the Braves went on a 10-point spurt immediately after the tied score. John Peterson broke the deadlock with a nifty layup followed follow-ed by two 3-point shots, one each by Chris Godfrey and Jeff Parrish. A defensive goal tending and a fast-break layup by Matt Walton put the Braves ahead 75-64 with 2:40 remaining. Then frustration set in for the Wildcats. In the next two minutes, Bountiful Boun-tiful stepped to the foul line 14 times, and tanked 11. At one point, there were four technical fouls called against the Wildcat players and coach while the clock was stopped. Parrish tanked four out of six charity tosses without leaving the foul stripe, while Walton connected on three of four in succession. Just before that, Walton and Aaron Roderick each canned a pair of freebies. Until the last six minutes, either team could have won the game. In fact, the lead changed hands 14 times and was tied three times until it all ended at 60-all. Bountiful got off to a fast start, jumping to an 8-0 lead before Kitt Rawlings connected on the first of three 3-point shots. The Braves, led by O'Brien, Walton and Roderick, kept the Braves in front 24-18 at the close of the first period. Woods Cross took the lead for the first time at 30-29 with 3:30 left in the first half when Rawlings took charge and scored a goal, a 3-point shot and two foul tosses. The Wildcats led at intermission, 40-37, and held that lead until early in the third quarter when Walton and Roderick hit back-to-back layups and O'Brien connected on a pair of charity tosses. The Wildcats regained the lead and were ahead by one, 55-54, at the close of the third quarter. The victory was third in Region Six for Bountiful and the sixth straight loss for the Wildcats. In Friday night action, Woods Cross entertains Murray at 7:30 p.m. and Bountiful plays at Jordan. Four players hit in double figures for Bountiful, led by Roderick with 22. Woods Cross pulled into a first period lead, 19-14, but dropped behind by six points at intermission and trailed by 12 points at the close of the third quarter. The Buffaloes trailed by eight early in the game but went on a 19-3 scoring spree and coasted to the easy victory. Murray held a comfortable lead throughout the entire game, leading 16-9 at the close of the first period and 35-28 at halftime. Matt Walton had a game-high 27 points, including in-cluding one 3-pointer and 13 field goals for the Braves. |
