Show For Pentagon accomplishments Engstrom awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal 1 i I V Y Former Kaysville resident and author Betsy (Gutzmer) Engstrom was recently awarded the Joint Service Ser-vice Achievement Medal for her distinctive accomplishments at the Pentagon during Operations Desert ShieldDesert Storm. Engstrom is a journalist second class with the Navy Reserves in Eugene, Ore. She was called to active ac-tive duty in the Joint Combat Camera Center at the Pentagon from February through August as head of the StUl Video department. The Joint Combat Camera Center documented the war for the Department of Defense. Engstrom received electronic images from the area of operations, enlarged. enhanced and duplicated them, then made them available to the people at the dec is ion -making level. "The importance of still video is its immediacy," Engstrom said. "Our team could have a glossy photo of an event in the President's hands within 28 minutes of its occurrence." Petty Officer Engstrom also worked on a project for the War Crimes Commission, documenting Iraqi atrocities. Engstrom is the daughter of Dorothy Bergstrom of Oak Lane, Kaysville, and attended Davis High. Her third novel, Lizzie Borden, was published in January 1 990.
