Show Eight bidders await word on new county jail complex Excitement was high at the Davis County Courthouse on Wednesday morning as contractors gathered for the bid opening for the new. jail complex. Eight bids were received for building the complex. ' , When the eight bids were opened, open-ed, they were very close. Big D was the apparent low bidder on die base -bid at $13,528,000 but that bid was followed closely by Hogan and -Tingey at $13,585,000 and Layton Construction at $13,612,000. The highest base bid came from R. G. Corp. at $14,474,000. The architect's archi-tect's estimate for the complex's base price was $13,799,163. John Taft, from Edward and Daniels, the architects for the complex, com-plex, said the bids were excellent and, that they; appreciated (he tremendous effort everyone had put ' in. Sid Smith of Flood Control said it showed good planning to get the bids so close together. - - Because the jail complex is a large project with ten alternatives included, covering everything from ' carpeting to sight lighting, the bids will be studied furihsr before the bid is actually aware ed.
