Show How to determine which church is right! By REV. ERIC V. KAELBERER Pastor of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church : How to determine which church is right! This is a highly charged issue. Emotions run high whenever the discussion turns to the question of whose church is right. It would be easy to engage in denomination-alism. denomination-alism. But that would be wrong. Rather, let us appeal to the only true source and standard for all matters in faith and life: God's Holy Word. The Word of God needs to be the standard forjudging churches. Any other standard is human and therefore there-fore faulty. The right and true Church is where: (a) God's Word is preached in its completeness, purity, simplicity, sim-plicity, and truth; (b) the traditions of man are used to serve the clear teaching and preaching of the Word of God, never to rule over the Word; (c) all matters of conscience consci-ence and doctrine are determined not by any kind of human standard but solely and only on the basis of God's revelation through the Holy Bible, His Word. In short, the right and true church is that church which has the Word of God as its rule, for it is through His Word that we have the never changing, always faithful and true promises of God. His Word must be the only standard. If you belong to a church which is ruled by the Word alone, praise God and eagerly support its minis try. If you are unchurched or do not know if your church is based solely on God's Word you need to ' study the issues and God's Word and determine on the basis of the Word, and not your emotions, whether you are in a Christian Church. If your church does not measure up to God's Word then find one that does rely solely on the Word. This is such an important issue because a church which does not stand only on the Word is like a house built on a foundation of shifting shift-ing sand (Please see Matthew 7:24-27). 7:24-27). For your own protection and joy, learn what your church teaches and what it stands on. You'll be glad you did, for then you can stand up and boldly say, "I am a , and I thank my God for blessing my Church." As you study the doctrines of your particular denomination or of others, may God, through His Word, richly bless and guide you.
