Early feedback on "Families in Action," a new family resource program, is ranging from "pleased" to "downright excited," ex-cited," according to Bill Pate-naude, Pate-naude, coordinator of the course for Davis County Mental Health. "The part that includes an extended ex-tended outdoor experience generates gener-ates lots of enthusiasm from the youth," says Patenaude. "Also, we find that learning about family interaction, and that all families have some hard times, provides new hope to parents who felt overwhelmed over-whelmed when they entered the program." "Families in Action" is designed to enhance communication, through education and practice, in families not relating well to each other, particularly those under pressure from such stressors as mental health difficulties, legal trouble, substance abuse, chronic pain, delinquency, pregnancy, dropping out of school, verbal, emotional or sexual abuse, or other areas of conflict. The course is designed to last ten weeks. It is offered at no charge to residents of Davis County under a federal grant. Among the comments from participants par-ticipants upon completion of the program, Patenaude reports the following samples from parents: "1 have only one regret. ..that it isn't a longer course," and "Superb!"
