His i By DON GARRETT As reported in the Chronicle, a search committee was formed last week to look for a new President for the University. I can now report that I have in my possession with some technical assistance from, the Republican Party a transcript of the first meeting held by the search committee. Chairman: Gentlemen, I'm sure you know the purpose of this meeting, and I needn't impress upon you the urgency of our task. Frankly, I'm afraid of what might happen here without a president. Member A: You mean you're afraid the University might collapse? Chairman: No, I'm afraid nobody would notice. Furthermore, Fur-thermore, if we don't pay a president's salary one year, the legislature will never appropriate ap-propriate one again. Member B: I assume we've asked President Emery to stay on? Chairman: We've tried, but we can't get a response. Member A: He's not in his office? Chairman: We're not sure. |
