Show tfes bruised while lumping A torch parade and ski band touched off the Steamboat Springs, Colo., jumping meet last weekend. The University ski jumping jum-ping team climaxed this all expenses expen-ses paid extravaganza with cuts, bruises and a light concussion. Dean Draxton, over-jumping the 300-foot hill, broke his ski while knocking himself out. Leif Nord also fell on his jump and sustained cuts and bruised ribs. Ski coach, Matz Jenssen, revived his team by placing third with Fredrick Bjornstad finishing seventh. sev-enth. Chris Von der Ahe and Fred Duberow placed first and second in slalom at the BYU Winter Carnival held at Sundance last Friday and Saturday. In giant slalom Bjorn Malkomsen finished second and Duberow third. Malkomsen Mal-komsen also placed second in cross-country skiing. The NCAA qualifying trials will be held this weekend at Winter Park, Colo. The University must be one of the top five teams to be eleigible. Last year the team was sixth. |
