Show Thinclads' hopes rise for WAC indoor meet ' ' ' -if I team migrated from the halls ot the HPER Center to the more desireable all-weather track in the stadium. Coach Hess expects his team to be adequate in nearly all the events with a few standouts suchas Dave Walker in the long jump and Scott Bringhurst in the distance races. Walker presently holds the longest jump in the nation this season with a 25-foot 2-inch effort. Coach Pete Carlston's attitude is quickly brightening with regards to the Western Athletic Conference' Confer-ence' (WAC) Indoor Championships Champion-ships Feb. 19 and 20. Up to now the cold weather has hampered the team's training, which would set it back little when paired with Brigham Young or UTEP. BYU has that indoor track which allows its team to train regardless of the weather while UTEP has all that sun, as do the rest of the southern schools. Hosting the meet in the Salt Palace, Brigham Young is rated as one of the pre-meet favorites. However, with the favorable weather Salt Lake City has had the last few weeks, the Utah track Long distance runners Gerry Walker, Bill Rice and Brett Hansen find the warm weather to their hking as they prepare for the Indoor Conference Cham-pionships Cham-pionships Feb. 19 and 20. |
