Show I Debate squad wins again The University Debate Squad ;ontinued to advance its record in ornaments completed this iiekend at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and at BYU. A total of 30 University students participated in the two tournaments, which brought the University into competition with 45 colleges from the Midwest and West. Marge Taylor brought home the first place trophy in Oral Interpretation Interpre-tation of Literature from the New Mexico meet. Her program of readings focused on poetic interpretations inter-pretations of the criminal mind and included material by Kenneth Fearing, Elder Olson and Jacques Prevert. Mike Weiler placed fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking. The team of Weiler and Taylor advanced to the quarter-finals of senior debate. A large junior division squad composed mostly of freshmen made a good showing at the annual tournament hosted by BYU. The junior teams won 75 percent of their debate rounds, with the teams of Kris Heisel and Gary Schultz, Bruce Jensen and Leonard McGee Bob Thorup and Tim Weiler pacing the squad. Gary Schultz captured the second place trophy in Extemporaneous Extempor-aneous Speaking, while Tim Weiler reached the finals in this event. Janet Haycock made the finals in Oratory |
